Sandra McLellan\u2019s lab at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee\u2019s School of Freshwater Sciences has received a $1.5 million grant to help fund a better assessment tool for water pollution that affects rivers and beaches in urban areas.<\/p>\n
Currently, pollution in urban waterways is assessed by measuring the levels of E. coli<\/em> and fecal coliform bacteria in the water. McLellan, a professor in the School of Freshwater Sciences, is looking for better microorganisms that would give important clues as to the source of the pollution.<\/p>\n McLellan\u2019s work has led to the cleanup of Bradford Beach.
