A Princeton American elm and a Warrenred Pacific Sunset maple were among nine new trees planted throughout the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee campus Friday, April 29, to celebrate Arbor Day.<\/p>\n

The new trees should bolster Milwaukee\u2019s application to become certified by Tree Campus USA, which encourages colleges to better budget, manage and sustain their urban trees. The 51ÁÔÆæ Grounds Department assisted with the plantings, including the elm, which was installed in front of the Klotsche Center along Downer Avenue, an area that\u2019s part of the Downer Woods extension.<\/p>\n

Other new trees on campus include two sugar maples, a fir tree, a burr oak, a white oak and two common hackberries. The plantings were made possible by donations from Johnson\u2019s Nursery Inc., Leaves Inspired Tree Nursery, the Wisconsin Christmas Tree Producers Association, First Choice Tree Care and the American Transmission Co.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
