{"id":151741,"date":"2025-12-09T10:35:57","date_gmt":"2025-12-09T16:35:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/?p=151741"},"modified":"2026-01-09T10:53:43","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T16:53:43","slug":"major-demolition-work-on-old-chemistry-building-begins-dec-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/major-demolition-work-on-old-chemistry-building-begins-dec-15\/","title":{"rendered":"Major demolition work on old chemistry building begins in early January"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Work on the demolition of the old chemistry building is progressing on schedule.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In early January, major demolition will begin on the building\u2019s center section and the south wing and will continue through May 2026. This work will be noisy and dusty. To ensure safety, members of the campus community and visitors should not enter the marked, no-trespassing work areas.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">51ÁÔÆæ will be monitoring vibration in nearby buildings. If the levels are too high, workers will adjust their methods to reduce vibrations. The buildings potentially affected include the Engineering and Mathematical Sciences Building, Lapham Hall, the Architecture and Urban Planning Building, Kenwood Interdisciplinary Research Center and the new Chemistry Building.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Utility disconnections to the old chemistry building began in late November and will continue through the end of the year. This will involve brief electrical outages to other buildings at about 6 a.m. to facilitate disconnecting electrical from the old chemistry building. Campus electricians will send a notice ahead of the planned outages for specific buildings.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Steam, chilled water and IT disconnections are complete.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The site redevelopment is scheduled to begin in July 2026 and continue until August 2027.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Major demolition will begin on the old chemistry building\u2019s center section and the south wing and will continue through May 2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":40008,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":"","uwm_wg_additional_authors":[]},"categories":[187,336],"tags":[],"section":[],"display_categories":[],"related-coverage":[],"uwmnews-feed":[],"class_list":["post-151741","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-faculty-staff-announcements","category-student-announcements"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.3 (Yoast SEO v27.3) -
