The University of Wisconsin\u2013Milwaukee will host a public lecture to commemorate a decade since the groundbreaking detection of gravitational waves, or ripples in space-time caused by cosmic collisions of black holes and neutron stars. 51ÁÔÆæ scientists played a pivotal role in the discovery, which confirmed a major prediction of Einstein\u2019s general theory of relativity and contributed to a Nobel Prize<\/a> in Physics.<\/p>\n

Media are invited to attend the event, which will take place Thursday, Sept 18, 2025, at 7 p.m.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

51ÁÔÆæ researchers helped detect<\/a> gravitational waves from a cataclysmic event in the distant universe. Their work was instrumental in identifying the waves as the result of colliding black holes, using advanced analytical tools and a network of supercomputers to process massive amounts of data.<\/p>\n

Patrick Brady, 51ÁÔÆæ physics professor<\/a> and key contributor to the discovery, and fellow scientists involved will share insights into what has been learned about black holes and neutron stars since that first observation.<\/p>\n

The event is hosted by the <\/a>Leonard E. Parker Center for Gravitation, Cosmology and Astrophysics<\/a>, in partnership with the Manfred Olson Planetarium<\/a>.<\/p>\n
