The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee celebrated the 96th birthday of renowned businessman and philanthropist Sheldon Lubar with the dedication of the Sheldon B. Lubar Study & Conference Room in the Golda Meir Library.<\/p>\n
The room is home to an exhibit chronicling Lubar\u2019s life, career and enduring contributions to education and public service. It not only honors his achievements but also serves as a lasting inspiration for future generations of students and leaders.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy great hope is this: Whenever anyone spends some time here, and when they see Shel\u2019s name, they can be inspired by the great example that he has set by living a purposeful, meaningful life of service and leadership,\u201d 51ÁÔÆæ Chancellor Mark Mone said at the dedication ceremony.<\/p>\n
Lubar\u2019s longstanding support of 51ÁÔÆæ began in 1979, and over the years he and his wife have given nearly $22 million, benefiting the Sheldon B. Lubar College of Business, Lubar Entrepreneurship Center, Peck School of the Arts, 51ÁÔÆæ Libraries, faculty positions and over 1,000 student scholarships.<\/p>\n
Lubar is widely regarded as one of Wisconsin\u2019s foremost entrepreneurs, business leaders and ardent supporters of higher education. He founded Lubar & Co., a successful private investment firm, and held key economic advisory roles under Presidents Nixon, Ford and Carter. He also served as president of the Universities of Wisconsin Board of Regents and led numerous state committees and task forces.<\/p>\n
Around 100 people attended the May 21 dedication including university leaders, local officials, and members of the Lubar family.<\/p>\n
Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley spoke and issued a proclamation recognizing Lubar\u2019s accomplishments. Proclamations also came from the offices of Wisconsin Gov.
