The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is proud to welcome Ada Lim\u00f3n, the 24th poet laureate of the United States, as part of its Distinguished Lecture Series. Lim\u00f3n, an award-winning poet and MacArthur \u201cGenius\u201d Fellow, will speak at 51ÁÔÆæ on Tuesday, April 15, sharing insights from her celebrated career in poetry, literature and the intersection of art and the natural world.<\/p>\n

Lim\u00f3n is the author of six books of poetry, including \u201cThe Carrying,\u201d winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award, and \u201cBright Dead Things,\u201d which was nominated for the National Book Award. Her latest book, \u201cThe Hurting Kind,\u201d was shortlisted for the Griffin Poetry Prize. She is also the author of two children\u2019s books: \u201cIn Praise of Mystery\u201d and \u201cAnd, Too, The Fox,\u201d which was released this year.<\/p>\n

As U.S. poet laureate, Lim\u00f3n launched \u201cYou Are Here,\u201d a signature project focusing on how poetry can help us connect to the natural world. In addition to receiving a Guggenheim Fellowship, she made history when her poem was engraved on NASA\u2019s Europa Clipper spacecraft, which launched to Jupiter\u2019s second moon in October 2024. Lim\u00f3n was also named a Time Magazine Woman of the Year in 2024.<\/p>\n
