{"id":128703,"date":"2024-01-23T09:40:23","date_gmt":"2024-01-23T15:40:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/?p=128703"},"modified":"2024-01-25T09:01:53","modified_gmt":"2024-01-25T15:01:53","slug":"artwork-by-peck-student-makes-panther-pale-ale-stand-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/artwork-by-peck-student-makes-panther-pale-ale-stand-out\/","title":{"rendered":"Artwork by Peck student makes Panther Pale Ale stand out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the fall of 2023, 51ÁÔÆæ collaborated with Pilot Project Brewing and partners to release Panther Pale Ale, a new product available at 51ÁÔÆæ home games and in retailers throughout the Milwaukee area. A major factor that sets the beverage apart from other ales on the market is the vivid art featured on every can.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For that, Pilot Project connected with Robert Grame, associate professor of design and visual communication. He offered the project as an optional challenge to students in his packaging design course.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The result is a striking design by Gisselle Dominguez, a senior design and visual communication student from Waukesha. She found inspiration for her design from the word she uses to sum up what Milwaukee and 51ÁÔÆæ mean to her: community.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_128211\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-128211\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-128211\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2023\/12\/beer300x200-113A6110.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-128211\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The signature of Gisselle Dominguez graces the can.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI wanted to create a design that resonated with 51ÁÔÆæ students and alumni by incorporating the colors and patterns that reflect the university\u2019s dynamism, community and inclusive spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dominguez noted that an inclusive environment and sense of community are important to her as a first-generation college student.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe design is a celebration of the shared experiences that I have come across with classmates, students and my city, which has fueled my creativity and given me amazing opportunities. I am sure others feel the same across their time attending 51ÁÔÆæ,\u201d Dominguez said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-128207 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2023\/12\/beer250x300-113A6124.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"300\" \/>The creative process became collaborative, with design students working together to discuss potential concepts and drawings. Dominguez credits the support she receives from faculty as a motivator to create the artwork and submit it to Chancellor Mark Mone, who made the final decision.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In total, the chancellor reviewed 14 design options submitted by seven students.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The selected design made its debut when Panther Pale Ale officially launched at 51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s Dec. 13 men\u2019s basketball home game. Dominguez attended and described the event as a surreal, full-circle moment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEverything felt out of this world\u2026 it reminded me what 51ÁÔÆæ is all about,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Panther Pale Ale is an officially licensed product developed in a partnership among Pilot Project Brewing, Craft Beverage Warehouse, Milwaukee Athletics, the Collegiate Licensing Company and Peck School of the Arts. <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/mke-athletics-pilot-project-brewing-debut-panther-pale-ale-this-week-at-uwms-mens-basketball-game-2\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">It is now available<\/a> at Pilot Project, the 51ÁÔÆæ Panther Arena and in participating bars, restaurants and liquor stores across the area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dominguez\u2019s work can be found on her <a
