Poorman Award for Outstanding Achievement on Behalf of LGBTQ+ People.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_127115\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-127115\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-127115\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2023\/11\/Bogner250x300-Carl-MIL_PBP_2x3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-127115\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Carl Bogner<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Dr. P.B. Poorman Award is given to people or their allies who have helped create a safer and more inclusive climate for LGBTQ+ people. The award, now in its 15<sup>th<\/sup> year, is named for Paula B. Poorman, a faculty member at UW-Whitewater dedicated to improving the lives of LGBTQ+ people.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cHonorees are helping build a better experience for our students, faculty, and staff,\u201d said Universities of Wisconsin President Jay Rothman. \u201cThis award recognizes their achievements in creating a safer and inclusive climate at our universities.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_127117\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-127117\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-127117\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2023\/11\/Carter-Crystal250x300-MIL-WOC_2x3-scaled-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-127117\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Crystal Carter<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Crystal Carter, a former clinical associate professor\/field liaison in the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsin.edu\/news\/archive\/universities-of-wisconsin-honor-outstanding-women-of-color-in-education-award-recipients-for-2023\/\">is one of 13 women chosen<\/a> as Outstanding Women of Color in Education.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Outstanding Women of Color award is an annual honor given to faculty, staff, students or community members to recognize their achievements in advancing equity and inclusion for people of color within the Universities of Wisconsin as well as communities across the state.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">This year is the 28<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the award, through which more than 400 women of color have been recognized for their transformational work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe Universities of Wisconsin have a longstanding commitment to inclusion at our universities,&#8221; Rothman said. \u201cWe are proud to honor these women of color whose achievements in advocacy and scholarship are transforming our campuses and communities to be more equitable and inclusive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Carter, who left 51ÁÔÆæ in July 2023, now serves as policy initiatives administrator-senior equity advisor for the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Both awards were presented at a ceremony and reception in Madison Nov.
