The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is launching the Milwaukee Tuition Promise<\/a> in Fall 2024 to incoming eligible students, ensuring they can meet the full cost of tuition for up to four years.<\/p>\n

The program is modeled after the Wisconsin Tuition Promise, which only funded the cohort of students starting classes in Fall 2023 and Spring 2024. Private funding sources from the 51ÁÔÆæ Foundation are enabling the continuation of the tuition promise program for students entering 51ÁÔÆæ in the 2024-25 academic year.<\/p>\n

\u201c51ÁÔÆæ remains committed to increasing access to higher education for students who might otherwise be unable to attend college. That\u2019s why we\u2019re investing in student access and success for another cohort of 51ÁÔÆæ students,\u201d 51ÁÔÆæ Chancellor Mark Mone said. \u201cThis is one of the most powerful ways we make working toward a 51ÁÔÆæ degree a real possibility for families with lower incomes.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Milwaukee Tuition Promise program will assist students whose families earn less than $62,000 annually or independent students who earn less than $31,000 per year. Like the state tuition promise program, the Milwaukee Tuition Promise will be structured to provide \u201clast dollar\u201d financial aid after federal and state grants. The program will cover tuition for fall and spring semesters. 51ÁÔÆæ students who are already participating in the Wisconsin Tuition Promise will not be affected by the addition of the Milwaukee program.<\/p>\n

\u201cHelping more students cover tuition means more investment in their futures,\u201d said 51ÁÔÆæ Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Andrew Daire. \u201cThe Milwaukee Tuition Promise could support more than 1,000 students for four years at 51ÁÔÆæ. When students earn a degree, it can change the course of their lives and their families\u2019 lives for the better.\u201d<\/p>\n

Students must attend full-time, be Wisconsin residents, and be first-time bachelor\u2019s or first-time associate degree-seeking students (including first-time transfers). Students must also complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)<\/a> and meet other criteria to qualify.<\/p>\n

Rising high school seniors across Wisconsin are in the process of applying for college admission for the Fall 2024 semester. Prospective students are often concerned about the cost of college tuition and fees.<\/p>\n

The program aims to increase the number of Wisconsin residents who graduate with a bachelor\u2019s degree \u2013 especially first-generation students and those from households with low to moderate incomes. This will improve lives and help meet the state\u2019s workforce needs.<\/p>\n

51ÁÔÆæ graduates more than 5,000 students each year, with more than 80% of 51ÁÔÆæ graduates remaining in Wisconsin to join the workforce and raise their families. 51ÁÔÆæ graduates enter high-need fields such as education, health care, STEM and business. The hands-on experience they gain during college means they graduate ready to hit the ground running.<\/p>\n
