Dr. Joan Prince, a former vice chancellor of global inclusion and engagement at 51ÁÔÆæ whose distinguished career also includes service at the United Nations, has been appointed to the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents.<\/p>\n

A Milwaukee native, Prince is a four-time graduate of 51ÁÔÆæ. In 2012, President Barack Obama nominated Prince as an alternate representative to the 67th General Assembly of the United Nations, with the honorary rank of ambassador. She also served as a member of the 2013 United States delegation to the Commission on the Status of Women.<\/p>\n

Prince retired from 51ÁÔÆæ<\/a> in 2021 following a two-decade tenure as vice chancellor. She was known as a tireless supporter for the inclusion of all students, faculty and staff in driving 51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s dual access and research missions.<\/p>\n

\u201cDr. Prince has an impressive and trailblazing career,\u201d Evers said in announcing the appointment Monday<\/a>. \u201cFrom working on her doctorate to her time as an associate professor and vice chancellor to serving at the United Nations, she will bring a wealth of experience and insights to the board and a deep appreciation for the work of students, faculty and staff across the system.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prince arrived at 51ÁÔÆæ at age 16 as a freshman and earned bachelor\u2019s degrees in general studies and medical technology, a master\u2019s degree in clinical laboratory sciences and a doctorate in urban education with a focus on STEM education.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter having the privilege and honor of receiving four degrees from the University of Wisconsin System, I know firsthand the level of academic excellence as well as the life-changing impact that this distinguished institution has on all that pass through its doors,\u201d Prince said. \u201cIt will be my honor and privilege to serve and support the facility, staff and students on behalf of our state.\u201d<\/p>\n
