The effort is supported by the Johnson Controls Foundation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The \u201cPresident&#8217;s and Chancellor\u2019s Challenge: A Crosstown Collaboration to Address Poverty\u201d will provide funding for interdisciplinary teams of faculty, staff and students from Marquette and 51ÁÔÆæ to partner on innovative and collaborative\u00a0work that represents critical areas in the community\u2019s efforts to stem the rise of poverty. Partnerships with community organizations are highly encouraged.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The program will support two to three funded projects with budgets of up to $75,000 for an 18-month timeframe. Proposals should address one or more aspects within the following focuses, adapted from the indicators and monitoring framework for the United Nations&#8217;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/resources.unsdsn.org\/indicators-and-a-monitoring-framework-for-sustainable-development-goals-launching-a-data-revolution-for-the-sdgs\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sustainable Development Solutions Network<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Deprivation\u00a0in nutrition, health care, education, safe drinking water and modern energy.<\/li>\n<li>Access\u00a0to nutritious and affordable food, full and productive employment, safe and affordable housing, social protection, inclusive and equitable education, a functioning health system, transportation and internet.<\/li>\n<li>Additional areas of interest include household vulnerability to economic shocks and those posed by natural hazards, empowerment or psychological well-being, diverse talent development opportunities, violence, the justice system, financial literacy, sustainable wealth-building and homeownership.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cPoverty is a vexing societal issue that impacts more than an individual or family. Our entire community suffers,\u201d 51ÁÔÆæ Chancellor Mark Mone said. \u201cPutting our best and brightest together is one of the best ways that we can make a lasting difference in people&#8217;s lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marquette President Michael R. Lovell said: \u201cThere are many people and families in our community who live in poverty without access to basic needs and vital resources. The President\u2019s Challenge was started to address the issues and concerns that our neighbors face.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Information on submitting a proposal, as well as timelines and updates for the program, are available on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marquette.edu\/innovation\/the-presidents-chancellors-challenge.php\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">President\u2019s and Chancellor&#8217;s Challenge website<\/a>, hosted by Marquette\u2019s Office of Research and Innovation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The President\u2019s Challenge was first announced by Marquette in 2018 through a partnership with the Johnson Controls Foundation. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the President\u2019s Challenge has adapted to address immediate needs in the community through 2020\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marquette.edu\/news-center\/2020\/president-s-challenge-for-covid-19-response-winners-announced.php\">President\u2019s Challenge for COVID-19 Response<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marquette.edu\/news-center\/2021\/two-projects-chosen-for-president-s-challenge-for-racial-justice-and-equity-response-funding.php\">President\u2019s Challenge for Racial Justice
