Advocacy, Activism &amp; Alliances in American Architecture since 1968,\u201d opened Feb. 4 in the first-floor gallery of the Architecture and Urban Planning building following previous showings in in Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Montreal, New York and San Francisco, as well as abroad in Stockholm.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-102577 size-full alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2022\/02\/NOW-WHAT200x200__Instagram_Square-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2022\/02\/NOW-WHAT200x200__Instagram_Square-1.jpg 200w, https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2022\/02\/NOW-WHAT200x200__Instagram_Square-1-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>The exhibit tells <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/school-of-architecture-urban-planning-to-host-traveling-exhibition-on-the-history-of-activism-in-architecture\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">what organizers say<\/a> is the largely unknown history of how architects and designers have responded to the major social movements over the last five-plus decades, while also encouraging public debate and dialogue. The civil rights, LGBTQ and women\u2019s movements affected every facet of U.S. society, including architecture and design.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParticularly in light of the activism we&#8217;ve seen in the last two years, it\u2019s important to commemorate this half-century of advocacy and let today&#8217;s viewers learn about the often forgotten narratives of activist designers who have come before them,\u201d said Lori Brown, president and founder of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.architexx.org\/about\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ArchiteXX<\/a>. She is co-curator of the exhibit.<\/p>\n<p>Sponsored by the Wisconsin Preservation Fund and the law firm Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/sarup\/now-what-exhibition-2022\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Now What?!&#8221; exhibit<\/a>\u00a0will be on display at the School of Architecture and Urban Planning through April 29.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are at a critical moment in the discipline and profession of architecture, where the influence of past actions can help chart a course forward for our
