UW-Milwaukee offers a wide range of support resources for Military and Veteran students to help them succeed in various areas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These resources include academic advising, accommodations, career services, and health and wellness programs. Additionally, there are initiatives for faculty and staff education, military and education benefits, and student success services. The university also supports student organizations like the Student Veterans of America and programs such as Veterans Success On Campus and Veterans Upward Bound, all aimed at fostering a supportive and enriching environment for our military and veteran students.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Military and Education Benefits<\/div>
There are several different military education benefits programs available to current military, veterans, and their dependents. The staff of the Military Education Benefits Office (MEBO) can help you determine which program you are eligible for, or which program is best for you. Student Veterans of America<\/div>
The Student Veterans of America (SVA): UW-Milwaukee chapter is a campus student organization open to 51ÁÔÆæ student veterans, active military, their dependents, and supporters. Current SVA leadership and members\u2019 goals are to create programming that connects members to community, and support service projects in the Milwaukee and surrounding area.<\/div>Contact an SVA Advisor<\/a><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
Veterans Success On Campus<\/div>
The Vet Success on Campus (VSOC) program is a Department of Veterans Affairs initiative that places an experienced veterans counselor right on university campuses with large military and veteran student populations. 51ÁÔÆæ is the only university in the state with this program.

The purpose of the VSOC program is to help military and veteran students and their qualified dependents make a smooth transition to college life, to successfully complete their educational programs, and to prepare to enter the labor market in viable careers.<\/div>Contact the 51ÁÔÆæ VSOC Campus Counselor<\/a><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
Veterans Upward Bound<\/div>
Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) on the 51ÁÔÆæ campus is designed to help qualified military veterans become college-ready and enroll in a postsecondary school (university, community college, and vocational\/technical programs). VUB provides basic skills instruction and educational and career advising to enable veterans to achieve their academic goals. Those veterans without a high school diploma can take the basic skills classes to prepare to take the GED exam. Specific program services include needs assessments, basic academic instruction, post-secondary academic preparation, pre-GED\/HSED preparation, tutoring, counseling, post-secondary enrollment assistance, cultural enrichment.<\/div>Visit Veterans Upward Bound<\/a><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
Student Veterans in the Classroom<\/div>
As a member of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee\u2019s faculty and staff, learn how you can support military and veteran students on campus. MAVRC\u2019s Campus Education for Faculty and Staff is a 30-minute interactive training program that highlights the unique needs and experiences of military-related students. Accommodations<\/div>
Accessibility Resource Center (ARC) helps to ensure that 51ÁÔÆæ offers equal access for all students to the University\u2019s programs and services. ARC provides academic accommodations and services to students with disabilities and also provides information and support to faculty and staff.\u00a0 ARC works with students with all disabilities, including learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder, depression, anxiety disorder, PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, bipolar disorder, autism spectrum disorders, all chronic health conditions, mobility impairments, visual impairments, deaf and hard of hearing, etc.

Career Services<\/div>
The ultimate goal of the Military & Veterans Resource Center (MAVRC) is to support military and veteran students throughout their education programs and assist with successful transitions into their planned careers. MAVRC works to implement career services programming that is relevant and based on 51ÁÔÆæ student veteran needs.

Health & Wellness<\/div>
A strong network of campus and community resources support all members of the 51ÁÔÆæ community, making their health and safety a top priority. Students, faculty, and staff are introduced to these health and safety resources through campus programs, events, and communication tools. 51ÁÔÆæ also maintains a strong network of Health & Wellness support through the local VA with visits from the Mobile Vet Center, VA Regional Office, and other VA wellness programming.<\/div>View Health & Safety Resources<\/a><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n

Spouses and Children<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Families of veterans and service members share many of the same educational challenges, like what educational benefits to use, what to do during a move for deployment, activation, and more. At UW-Milwaukee, MAVRC provides services that enrich the lives of families and dependents of service members at every part of their educational journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MAVRC and the other offices within the Centers for Advocacy and Student Engagement partner together to support the spouses and children of student veterans who are attending 51ÁÔÆæ through programming, health and wellness supplies, and safe spaces.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
