Prospective Graduate Students<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Department of Mathematical Sciences Graduate Admission Committee evaluates all applications and decides which candidates will be admitted and which of those admitted students will receive offers of financial support<\/a> in the form of fellowships, teaching assistantships, or research assistantships. All applicants will automatically be considered for both admission and financial support, unless directed otherwise by the candidate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Information about submission of transcripts, GPA requirements, and English proficiency can be found on the Graduate School website<\/a>. The application will request that you provide your intended course of study and the names and e-mail addresses of three (3) references who have agreed to provide letters of recommendation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Department of Mathematical Sciences encourages, but does not currently require submission of general GRE scores. GRE Mathematics subject test scores are appreciated, but also not required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prospective students interested in visiting the Department of Mathematical Sciences are encouraged to contact the Associate Chair for the Graduate Program<\/a> to arrange a visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deadlines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Admissions are made on a rolling basis. Most offers of Teaching Assistantships, Research Assistantships, and Fellowships are made during the spring semester for students who will begin their studies the following fall. Applications must be completed by\u00a0January 31<\/strong>. In the event that an applicant has missed the deadline, they will need to contact the\u00a0Math Graduate Program<\/a>. Later applicants with good credentials may be considered for admission and financial aid, subject to availability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spring Semester: Although we sometimes consider applicants for the spring semester, our program is designed for fall admission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students must apply to 51ÁÔÆæ and the Department of Mathematical Sciences by completing the online application<\/a>.  A key component of the application requires the applicant to provide names and e-mail addresses of three (3) individuals who have agreed to provide letters of recommendation.  Submission of general GRE scores is recommended, but not required; the GRE Mathematics subject test scores are appreciated, but not required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Admission and financial aid decisions are made on a rolling basis; there are no hard deadlines. Nevertheless, for candidates seeking to begin studies in the Fall semester, it is recommended that the application, including all letters of recommendation, be completed by January 31<\/strong>. Meeting this soft deadline will maximize the applicant’s chances of getting the best-possible offer from our department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. The online application requires that you upload a copy of your transcript. An unofficial transcript provided to you by your home institution is acceptable. An official transcript is required only if you receive and accept an offer of admission from our program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Reference letter providers will receive an e-mail from the 51ÁÔÆæ Graduate School with instructions to electronically upload their letter of recommendation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Mailing your transcript(s) and letters of recommendation to the department will not<\/strong> complete your application.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
