Mathematics research at our university is driven by curiosity, collaboration, and a commitment to solving complex problems. Our faculty and students explore fundamental questions and develop innovative approaches that advance understanding across pure and applied mathematics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By fostering an environment where rigorous theory meets real-world application, the department contributes to breakthroughs that impact science, technology, and society. Whether investigating abstract structures or tackling practical challenges, our researchers push the boundaries of knowledge and inspire the next generation of mathematical thinkers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Actuarial Science<\/a><\/div>
Research interests of the actuarial science faculty include\u00a0a number of areas at the intersection of actuarial science,\u00a0quantitative risk management, applied probability, and statistics.<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
Algebra & Combinatorics<\/a><\/div>
Some of the main research areas are Quantum Groups and Hopf Algebras, Lie Theory & Algebraic Groups, Representation Theory, and Noetherian Rings.
<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
Analysis<\/a><\/div>
Research topics include Real Analysis, Harmonic Analysis, and Functional Analysis.<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
Applied Mathematics<\/a><\/div>
Applied mathematics research develops and analyzes mathematical models, methods, and algorithms to solve real-world problems.<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
Dynamical Systems<\/a><\/div>
Many research topics are included as well as opportunities for teaching assistantships, research assistantships, and fellowships.<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
Numerical Analysis<\/a><\/div>
Research involves numerical analysis for integral equations, partial differential equations (finite difference, finite element, domain decomposition), and optimization.<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
Probability<\/a><\/div>
The Probability Group runs an active seminar that meets twice per week. Topics range from discussion of well-known results that are not typically covered in classes to presentation of current research.<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
Statistics<\/a><\/div>
Learn more about all the connections across the university in which statistic research plays a part.<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
Topology<\/a><\/div>
