Such activities are an important part of the professional development of graduate students, offering opportunities to establish professional networks, contacts for collaborative research, and sources of potential future employment. The Department typically supports one trip per student per academic year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-eligibility\">Eligibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Full time graduate student in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at 51ÁÔÆæ<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Travel must be discussed and approved by the student\u2019s advisor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students must attempt to apply for funding from other sources, such as the 51ÁÔÆæ Graduate School Travel Support Program<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submit application prior to the conference<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-application-procedure\">Application Procedure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are encouraged to submit applications at least 2 months&nbsp;<em>before<\/em> the event. See below for application process:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/math\/students\/graduate\/graduate-resources\/graduate-student-conference-travel-award-program\/graduate-travel-application\/\">Conference Travel Award Application<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apply for additional support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/math\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/112\/2020\/02\/TAR_2020.pdf\"><\/a>Meet with Katie for travel arrangements\u00a0<i>before\u00a0<\/i>making any travel plans or booking.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-selection-process\">Selection Process<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Preference will be given to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students presenting at a conference (either oral or poster).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students who have not received a department conference travel award before.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-travel-guidelines\">Travel Guidelines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Awardees must comply with the State and campus\u00a0<a class=\"uwm-c-link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsin.edu\/travel\/\">travel policies and procedures<\/a>\u00a0and any other Department instructions. Students planning to drive personal vehicles or rental cars must be registered and authorized by 51ÁÔÆæ.
