You failed. Now what? How to pivot after facing life’s toughest challenges

Entrepreneurship is a big risk, big reward kind of a gamble. Sometimes it doesn’t play out as planned and entrepreneurs are forced to strategize, pivot, or move on.

Join us for a discussion with panelists who will share their stories about failing forward when it didn’t work, what they did, and how they picked themselves back up after overcoming some tough challenges. Attendees will walk away with resources available to best support them when the next “failing forward” opportunity comes about.

Together, students develop the creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork skills that help them pursue their own paths to leadership with confidence and support… With two Houses in Istanbul and Reyhanli already open, our hope is to build more Karam Houses and support as many communities as possible.”

The Lubar Entrepreneurship Center’s first Diverse Ideas of the fall semester will feature Alison White. Alison is the founder of the first selfie studio in Milwaukee – . In addition to being a business owner, Alison is also a mother and teacher. Free tickets will be given away!

“Selfie Hop is a selfie studio, also known as a selfie museum. We are located on Milwaukee’s Eastside and are a small locally owned business. We have over 20 different photo opportunities for your photo-taking pleasure. You can snap photos by yourself, with a special someone, or with a group of friends.”

Social Good Morning is a talk series hosted by our very own Entrepreneur-in-Residence of Social Innovation, Mark Fairbanks. LEC invites one local social innovator per month to have a short interview with Mark and then an open-format discussion, fielding questions from the audience about their strategies and passions. Topics of conversation range from poverty to sustainability to inclusivity and beyond.

Social Good Morning with Trudy Watt (Hybrid)

This interactive session with Assistant Professor of Architecture Trudy Watt will explore the growing applied compassion movement and its potential as the basis of taking altruistic action in design, collaboration and entrepreneurship. Trudy will share work from her yearlong journey to become an Ambassador of Compassion through the Stanford-affiliated Applied Compassion Training and how it is showing up in the classroom, relationships with collaborators and plans for organization building in the future.

This event is open to all and is a part of the LEC Teaching Fellows Weekly Friday program.

A Tea Ceremony and Community Conversation with Jeff Champeau

This month, Social Good Morning and Well Entrepreneur partner up to bring you a unique brew of social innovation, conscious culture, and wellness with Jeff Champeau, Vice President of Business Development at Rishi Tea and Botanicals.

There will be networking and a tea tasting for the first 30 minutes, followed by a matcha tea ceremony run by guests from Rishi Tea. We will close with a conversation about ancient tea practices, innovative business strategies, and how human connection is at the root of growing a company and expanding to new markets.

Well Entrepreneur is a talk series hosted by our very own Well Entrepreneur-in-Residence, Amelia Coffaro. Well Entrepreneur is an initiative, reimagining a healthier path of entrepreneurship in a way that supports individual and collective well being. It is an interactive talk series featuring entrepreneurs who share their insight on what it means to be well as they start and grow a business, how to create more well-being, accessibility, and inclusion in their work, and why this matters for the whole of entrepreneurship. Each talk includes a short, guided meditation.

Pop Up – Starting a Small Business: What You Need to Know (PART 2)

Join us for the second session with LEC Entrepreneur-in-Residence Loren Peterson about the first steps needed to form and begin to operate your business. This will be a continuation of the previous session from August 9th. It is an informal session, so any questions related to what it takes to getting a business started are welcome. Topics that will be covered include filing for a trademark, brand names, bookkeeping, keeping track of your business’s financial information; previous content on choosing a legal name, tax ID #’s, and how income taxes may impact the business (and your personal return) will also be reviewed. This workshop is open to anyone, so feel free to bring a friend or two.

LEC Working Session – Stakeholder Mapping and Prototype Testing

We are hosting a group working session brainstorm stakeholder maps. This is a good exercise to think about current and/or future customers.

We will also be spending time testing prototypes. Terrance Thomas has a card game that we will test. Feel free to bring a prototype if you have one and the group will give feedback.
