Startup Challenge participants will explore who your product or service helps and how it serves them. You will also learn how to find out if that model is sustainable over time.

The Science and Application of Meditation and Mindfulness in conversation with Susan Lubar and Dr. Richard Davidson

Well Entrepreneur Community Conversations and the Lubar Entrepreneurship Center are excited to welcome Dr. Richard Davidson, founder and director of the Center for Healthy Minds at the University of Wisconsin and Founder and Chief Visionary for Healthy Minds Innovations.
Davidson is best known for his groundbreaking work studying emotion and the brain. A friend and confidant of the Dalai Lama, he leads conversations on well-being, neuroplasticity, and happiness around the world on stages such as the World Economic Forum, where he served on the Global Council on Mental Health. Time Magazine named Davidson one of the Top 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2006.
Dr. Davidson will share how the science of well-being can support innovation and help entrepreneurs flourish. This conversation will explore:
Scientific evidence on neuroplasticity showing that we can change our brains by transforming our minds and cultivate habits of mind that will improve well-being
Well-being as a skill for entrepreneurs
An opportunity to try the tools and practices discussed during the talk

Nourish and connect with yourself and your peers at a well-being lunch for students hosted by the Lubar Entrepreneurship Center! Our time together will include personal self-compassion practice, reflection, and supportive conversation between students. Please RSVP on the LEC website. Startup Challenge: Meet & Greet Pizza Social
Interested in embarking on a startup journey? Don’t know where to start or need help figuring it out? The 51 Lubar Entrepreneurship Center would be excited to help! Join for a pizza social to learn about the LEC’s longest running program, the Startup Challenge. The Startup Challenge is a co-curricular program that encourages students to research and develop their ideas, prototype products, services, or social ventures, launch new businesses, and gain the skills that come from entrepreneurial experience. Coffee and Inspiration with Milwaukee Social Innovation Leader
Social Good Morning is a talk series hosted by our very own Entrepreneur-in-Residence of Social Innovation, Mark Fairbanks. LEC invites one local social innovator per month to have a short interview with Mark and then an open-format discussion, fielding questions from the audience about their strategies and passions. Topics of conversation range from poverty to sustainability to inclusivity and beyond.
Join the Lubar Entrepreneurship Center in welcoming Dr. Stacia Thompson, Executive Director of the Sherman Phoenix Foundation. The Sherman Phoenix is proudly the hub of over 25 Black businesses, art exhibits, and hosts cultural events to wellness programming.
51 LEC Scavenger Hunt
Compete in this one-of-a-kind 51 LEC Scavenger Hunt that starts at the Lubar Entrepreneurship Center and takes place across 51’s campus.

Mindfulness and Planetary Well-Being
Creating a sustainable future requires us to consider our relationship with ourselves, one another, and the planet. How do we sustain our collective well-being while making the changes necessary for a brighter future? The 51 Planetarium and Lubar Entrepreneurship Center invite you to relax, hope, move, and change. Take a walk with Dr. Jean Creighton through our 51 neighborhood to marvel at the wonder and awe of the planet we call home. Experience a guided mindfulness practice and learn how mindfulness can serve as a tool for change and transformation. This event will also feature University Innovation Fellow, Allyn Loutzee, who will share innovative ideas for actions we can take in our daily lives and community to preserve and protect the planet.
We will meet at the 51 Planetarium. Light snacks and drinks will be served following the event. *Event will be held indoors at the 51 Planetarium in case of inclement weather*

Design Thinking Workshop with Doug Dietz
Join the Lubar Entrepreneurship Center in welcoming Doug Dietz for a 90 minute talk and workshop focused on design thinking, story telling tools and approaches to empathy.

Get to know Doug: Doug Dietz worked for GE healthcare for more than 20 years. Using Design Thinking, he created the “Adventure Series” scanner used at children’s hospitals across the country. He is well known for his 2012 Tedx Talk: Transforming healthcare for children and families
BRINGING YOUR TOOLS TO THE TABLE: A STEM LEARNING DIALOGUE With special guest, Professor Vanessa Hill
Students from all backgrounds face difficulty in major STEM courses like math, organic chemistry, physics, etc., and want to find help. At this event, 51 students will fellowship over a meal with their friends and classmates and enjoy a night of sharing with renowned speaker and STEM learning expert, Professor Vanessa Hill. There, each student will be provided with their very own “toolbox” to fill with tips, tricks, and expert advice from Dr. Hill, who will share her own “tools of the trade” in how to study effectively and seek support as a STEM student. Dinner will be provided for all attendees.

Pathways to Impact: Ideas Worth Pursuing
The Milwaukee I-Corps™ Program, part of the NSF I-Corps Hub for the Great Lakes Region, is co-hosting an online workshop for Ph.D. students on March 30th, 2022. This online, synchronous workshop, facilitated by Dr. Mary Raber (Michigan Tech University) and Dr. Ilya Avdeev (UW-Milwaukee), is designed to help researchers adopt an entrepreneurial mindset, and to think about impact beyond the laboratory. At this workshop, participants will:
Demystify idea generation
Boost their creative confidence
Assess the competitive landscape for their idea
Start building an idea network
Leave with an action plan for idea exploration

You are invited to a Toastmasters Workshop held on Tuesday, April 5 from 7-8:30 P.M. This event will be held in hybrid format – as well as in person in the Lubar Entrepreneurship Center Atrium (room 105).
In this 90-minute workshop, you will learn and practice how to:
