2023 51ÁÔÆæ Innovators Expo

51ÁÔÆæâ€™s Innovators Expo is an annual celebration of innovation and entrepreneurship that showcases a collection of 51ÁÔÆæ community prototypes, ideas, startups, student orgs, partners, classes, and innovations in an exhibit format.

This is an opportunity for participants to showcase their progress and hard work that has been made over the past year. There are also opportunities for participants to win prizes through our PantherBucks Challenge and the Lubar Entrepreneurship Center Staff Choice Awards!

The Innovators Expo is an electric event with attendees ranging from 51ÁÔÆæâ€™s Chancellor Mone, 51ÁÔÆæ staff and faculty, donors, family and friends, and Milwaukee community members.

The 8th annual Innovators Expo will be taking place in person on May 4, 2023 from 5 – 8 p.m.

Startup Challenge: Storytelling and Mentor Mixer Lunch

Midway through the year, we learn the next phase of testing our business: prototyping! Design what your prototype will be and do, and get ready to build. This workshop is on a Friday afternoon and will be followed by a dinner that celebrates all the work you’ve done so far. Please RSVP to the Director of the Startup Challenge, Dr. Nathaniel Stern.

Diverse Ideas with Héctor Colón

The LEC is excited to partner with the Roberto Hernández Center to bring UW System Regent Héctor Colón to the first Diverse Ideas of the Fall Semester! Héctor is the president and CEO of Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan (LSS). Colón was named the Nonprofit Executive of the Year by BizTimes Media and the Hispanic Man of the Year by United Migrant Opportunity Services. He also was a member and champion of the U.S. national boxing team, winning seven national titles and competing in the 1992 Olympic trials. “From Boxing Ring to Boardroom: Five Virtues For Life and Leadership,” his first book, was recently released. Food will be provided at this event.

Diverse Ideas is a talk series that partners with 51ÁÔÆæ offices to invite global and local entrepreneurs/community innovators for an intimate chat with 51ÁÔÆæ students, faculty, and staff. By offering these talks, LEC hopes to build a larger and more diverse network of students involved in entrepreneurship, including one that spans across disciplines and majors. Speakers share their stories and give advice in an open-forum conversation with attendees. Learn with us how to improve our community and work together to problem-solve.

Learn how to work with the most used tool for startups in the world: the Business Model Canvas! Develop a model for your venture and work with an industry mentor on testing it out with your stakeholders.

Panther Pitch 2022

Hey 51ÁÔÆæ! Got an idea? Beginner and experienced pitchers are invited to share ideas and compete at this pitch competition co-sponsored with the 51ÁÔÆæ Black Student Cultural Center.

The Panther Pitch consists of two levels: beginner level and experienced level. The choice is up to you!

The beginner level competition has participants working closely with professionals who have created a startup business venture to develop an impactful pitch. Three winners will be selected at this level.

The experienced level competition has participants competing in a pitch competition for your venture. Afterwards, you will help entry-level entrepreneurs develop their pitches.

All 51ÁÔÆæ students are eligible to participate. Your two-minute-long pitch can win you:

  • A one-on-one meeting with an established business professional
  • A professional headshot
  • An Entrepreneur Resource Kit
  • Cocktail hour access during November’s business networking event
  • LEC Swag
