{"id":47556,"date":"2026-02-04T14:07:42","date_gmt":"2026-02-04T20:07:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/libraries\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=47556"},"modified":"2026-02-04T14:09:43","modified_gmt":"2026-02-04T20:09:43","slug":"great-books-virtual-roundtable-discussion-2","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/libraries\/event\/great-books-virtual-roundtable-discussion-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Great Books Virtual Roundtable Discussion"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>&#8220;Letter from Birmingham Jail&#8221; by Martin Luther King, Jr. and\u00a0&#8220;The African Revolution and Its Impact on Afro-Americans&#8221; by Malcom X<\/h2>\n<p>The February Great Books Virtual Roundtable Discussion will focus on texts by two central figures in the 1960s Civil Rights Movement: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.&#8217;s 1963 &#8220;Letter from Birmingham Jail,&#8221;\u00a0written in response to a public statement of concern and caution issued by eight white religious leaders of the South\u00a0while he was imprisoned as a participant in nonviolent demonstrations against segregation; and\u00a0Malcolm X&#8217;s final lecture at the Harvard Law School Forum, Dec. 16, 1964, on \u201cThe African Revolution and Its Impact on Afro-Americans,\u201d\u00a0offered two months before his assassination.<\/p>\n<p>The discussion will be held on Feb. 25 from 7-9 p.m. via Zoom. The event is free and open to the public. No expertise or prerequisites are required. Participants are asked to read the selected texts ahead of the discussion. Notices of intent to attend will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Feb. 25.
