Libraries\u00a0Analyze\u00a0Faculty\u00a0and\u00a0Graduate Student Library Satisfaction\u00a0Survey\u00a0Results\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A&nbsp;51ÁÔÆæ Libraries&nbsp;task force&nbsp;is&nbsp;working through the&nbsp;results of the fall 2025&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/libraries\/2025\/10\/22\/library-satisfaction-survey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">survey of&nbsp;faculty,&nbsp;instructional and research staff,&nbsp;and graduate students<\/a>.&nbsp;Over 550 people completed the survey, providing insight&nbsp;into&nbsp;how&nbsp;they&nbsp;use the&nbsp;Libraries\u2019&nbsp;collections,&nbsp;services,&nbsp;and&nbsp;spaces.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, faculty, staff, and graduate-student&nbsp;respondents&nbsp;are satisfied with the services and spaces&nbsp;provided.&nbsp;In particular,&nbsp;interlibrary&nbsp;loan and&nbsp;general&nbsp;support&nbsp;for teaching&nbsp;and research&nbsp;are viewed as successful and needed services.&nbsp;Respondents also&nbsp;identified&nbsp;areas of concern and areas for growth or&nbsp;improvement.&nbsp;Respondents use the&nbsp;Libraries&nbsp;differently depending on their role and&nbsp;whether&nbsp;they are remote&nbsp;employees&nbsp;or online-only&nbsp;students.&nbsp;The Libraries\u2019&nbsp;Grind coffee shop&nbsp;is valuable&nbsp;for&nbsp;meetings and taking a&nbsp;break,&nbsp;and several comments suggest that small improvements to study spaces could improve the graduate-student experience.&nbsp;The new Graduate&nbsp;Student&nbsp;Commons&nbsp;has caught on, with&nbsp;41% of graduate-student respondents&nbsp;using the space.&nbsp;As for respondents\u2019 most&nbsp;frequently&nbsp;used resources:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>64% of all respondents routinely use online journals\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>55% of all respondents routinely use subscription databases\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Comments&nbsp;regarding&nbsp;the Libraries\u2019&nbsp;collections reflected anxiety about cuts to the collection, affirming&nbsp;their&nbsp;support of the&nbsp;Libraries&nbsp;as&nbsp;a pillar of academic success.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An&nbsp;additional&nbsp;theme that&nbsp;emerged&nbsp;from the survey is that faculty, staff, and graduate students&nbsp;are&nbsp;often&nbsp;unaware of&nbsp;everything&nbsp;the&nbsp;Libraries&nbsp;have&nbsp;to offer.&nbsp;Survey&nbsp;questions&nbsp;about digital scholarship and publishing services elicited the most comments pointing to lack of awareness&nbsp;of&nbsp;the&nbsp;Libraries\u2019&nbsp;support&nbsp;in these areas:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>18% of\u00a0respondents\u00a0indicated\u00a0they had needed\u00a0consultations on\u00a0open access\u00a0publishing in the past\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>47% of respondents\u00a0anticipated\u00a0needing those services in the future\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The same pattern could be seen for consultations on&nbsp;authors&#8217;&nbsp;rights&nbsp;and other publishing-related services.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked directly about how respondents learn about&nbsp;the&nbsp;Libraries\u2019&nbsp;services, collections, and events:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>44%\u00a0rely on\u00a051ÁÔÆæ Report and other campus-wide announcements\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>31%\u00a0rely on the\u00a0Graduate Student Newsletter\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>30%\u00a0rely on receiving a\u00a0direct email from a librarian\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The 51ÁÔÆæ Libraries task force will continue to analyze the&nbsp;survey&nbsp;results&nbsp;and&nbsp;strengthen&nbsp;the&nbsp;Libraries\u2019&nbsp;collections, services, and spaces.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A&nbsp;51ÁÔÆæ
