{"id":44105,"date":"2024-10-01T09:35:52","date_gmt":"2024-10-01T14:35:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/libraries\/?page_id=44105"},"modified":"2026-03-23T12:39:28","modified_gmt":"2026-03-23T17:39:28","slug":"loanhistory","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/libraries\/borrowing-services\/policies\/loanhistory\/","title":{"rendered":"About Your Loan History"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"uwm-l-row\">\n<div class=\"uwm-l-col\">\n<p>Whenever an item is checked out from and returned to the library, our systems record the history of that transaction, including a reference to the person who checked out the item and which copy of the material was borrowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To protect your privacy, starting in March 2025 the Libraries will be anonymizing all loan history data that is older than six months. This process will de-identify the individual associated with the loan transaction. After anonymization, the Libraries will retain a record of the loan for internal collection analysis purposes, but will no longer be able to know which patron borrowed the item at that time.<br><br><a href=\"https:\/\/wisconsin.hosts.atlas-sys.com\/nonshib\/gzn\/\">Inter-library Loan<\/a> borrowing history is not currently impacted by this change.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-l-col uwm-l-col--4\">\n<ul class=\"uwm-c-list--contact uwm-c-list--cleanlist\">\n<li><i class=\"fa-solid fa-envelope fa-fw\"><\/i><a href=\"mailto:libcirc@uwm.edu\">libcirc@uwm.edu<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><i class=\"fa-solid fa-mobile-screen-button fa-fw\"><\/i><a href=\"tel:414-229-4132\">414-229-4132<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion\" data-accordion-prefix-classes=\"uwm\" data-accordion-cool-selectors=\"1\"><button class=\"uwm-p-accordion--toggle-button size-p-md\">Expand All<\/button>\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\"><strong>What do I need to do if I do not want my loan history retained?<\/strong><\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>If you do not want to maintain your full loan history, there is nothing you need to do. Starting in March, if your account has history older than six months, that older information will be anonymized, removing any connection it has to your account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to maintain your full loan history, then you need to follow the instructions below prior to March 2025.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Opting in required to maintain full history. How do I opt in?<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>If you want to maintain your entire loan history, prior to March 2025 you will need to log in to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/loanhistory.library.wisconsin.edu\/\">https:\/\/loanhistory.library.wisconsin.edu\/<\/a>\u00a0and opt in so that your history is preserved for your use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you decide later that you do want your loan history anonymized, you can go back to that URL and opt out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Any accounts that do not opt-in by March 2025 will have their loan history reduced to the prior six months, and loan history older than that will be anonymized and not recoverable.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">How can I export my loan history for my personal records?<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>Once you <a href=\"https:\/\/loanhistory.library.wisconsin.edu\/\">opt in<\/a>, you can export your loan history by using the&nbsp;<strong>Download&nbsp;<\/strong>link in the loan history service. This will download a text .csv file you can store offline or use in your personal applications.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Does loan history include active loans?<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>Active loans for physical materials that are still in the possession of library patrons are not affected by this policy. Any materials that have been checked out and not yet returned will still show up in your library account and will appear in your loan history once they are returned to the library.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">What is included in my full loan history?<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>If you opt in to have us retain your full history, it will contain the items title, author, loan date and other publication information. The loan history will not have a record of any digitization requests \u2013 only physical material loans.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">What happens when I leave UW-Milwaukee?<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>Patrons are strongly encouraged to download a copy of their loan history before their relationship with the university ends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When a patron loses their ePanther ID access, they will no longer be able to access their loan history. Furthermore, after a patron leaves UW-Milwaukee, their record is purged from library systems and their loan history will be purged and not recoverable.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">How are Non-51ÁÔÆæ Borrowers and Community Borrowers impacted?<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p class=\"size-h4 is-style-default\" id=\"Community-Borrower\">Persons not affiliated with 51ÁÔÆæ do not have an ePanther ID login and will not be able to opt in to the new loan history system.
