However, when full text articles or chapters are not available in our licensed databases, the interlibrary loan office can assist you by obtaining a PDF of articles and book chapters that you can post in Canvas for your classes. The following FAQ may be helpful for users to understand how this process will work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion\" data-accordion-prefix-classes=\"uwm\" data-accordion-cool-selectors=\"1\"><button class=\"uwm-p-accordion--toggle-button size-p-md\">Expand All<\/button>\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">What do I have to do to get articles or book chapters for Canvas?<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>You may scan your own readings or request articles and book chapters through&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wisconsin.hosts.atlas-sys.com\/nonshib\/gzn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ILLiad<\/a>. The ILL staff will find what you need, scan it, and deliver the PDF file to your ILLiad account. You should make requests for all your materials through this method, even if you have the book or journal issue in hand which has the chapter or article you desire. The ILL staff will be able to locate the item in our stacks, or from another source, and have the scan made for you. This will be quicker than if you brought in the book or journal to the ILL office, and allows you to always retain possession of your materials.<br><br>Within the ILLiad request form, use the field which indicates the item is to be posted in Canvas. The ILL staff will give priority to requests for materials for your courses and you should receive most of the files quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"364\" height=\"109\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/libraries\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/572\/2023\/04\/ILL-Canvas-2.png\" alt=\"A screenshot of ILLiad.\" class=\"wp-image-37552\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/libraries\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/572\/2023\/04\/ILL-Canvas-2.png 364w, https:\/\/uwm.edu\/libraries\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/572\/2023\/04\/ILL-Canvas-2-300x90.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 364px) 100vw, 364px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Each request must be made separately through ILLiad; the ILL staff will not be able to work off of lists. Once the files are delivered to your ILLiad account, you may upload them to your Canvas course or use them as you wish.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">How many articles or chapters can I request?<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>There is no limit to the number of requests you can submit, however we do observe copyright guidelines and fair use. <strong>The interlibrary loan department will not scan an entire book.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When filling out the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wisconsin.hosts.atlas-sys.com\/nonshib\/gzn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ILLiad<\/a>&nbsp;article form, please enter <strong>one <\/strong>chapter per form. If you need multiple chapters from the same book, each chapter will need to be a separate request.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Can I place photocopies on Reserve instead of posting to Canvas?<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>No. Reserve Services discontinued circulating photocopied materials (also known as \u2018pamphlet items\u2019).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">I have not used Canvas to post readings before. Who can help me?<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>The 51ÁÔÆæ<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/advancing-learning\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/advancing-learning\/\">Center for Advancing Student Learning (CASL)<\/a>\u00a0has extensive information about\u00a0Canvas\u00a0on their website and can offer both instructional sessions as well as one-on-one assistance for the novice user.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">I need to edit a PDF. What can I do?<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>Information on editing PDFs using Adobe Acrobat DC can be found on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/helpx.adobe.com\/acrobat\/using\/edit-scanned-pdfs.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Adobe site<\/a>. Editing cannot be done in the reader version. If you do not have access to Adobe Acrobat DC, please <a href=\"mailto:libill@uwm.edu\">contact <\/a>the interlibrary loan office and we can try to edit the PDF for you.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-l-col\">\n<p><strong>Copyright Guidelines<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 51ÁÔÆæ Libraries support and conform to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.copyright.gov\/title17\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Copyright Law of the United States Title 17 of the United States Code,<\/a>&nbsp;specifically the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.copyright.gov\/title17\/92chap1.html#107\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Section 107 Fair Use guidelines<\/a>&nbsp;regarding making copies of copyrighted materials available for classroom use. There are four factors used to determine if the nature of the use of a copyrighted work is considered fair use.
