51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s Academic Adventurers is a continuing series of informal afternoon programs that give members of the 51ÁÔÆæ community the opportunity to hear about their colleagues’ adventures abroad and afield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Talks begin at 3 p.m. in the American Geographical Society Library, third floor, east wing of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Library. Free and open to the public!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

March 12, 2025 – <\/strong>Chet Van Duzer and Gregory Heyworth, of the Lazarus Project. “Giovanni Leardo and his 15th century world maps”<\/em> and “Recovering Lost Texts with Multispectral Imaging”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March of this year, the team from the Lazarus Project<\/a> visited the AGSL. While they were here, we took the one of the American Geographical Society Library’s most cherished holdings, the 1452 mappamundi by Giovanni Leardo, out of the frame it has lived in for almost 20 years. Once removed from the frame, the Lazarus team performed multispectral imaging of the Leardo, and it allowed the 51ÁÔÆæ Libraries Digital Collections team to capture updated digital images as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of their visit, we hosted a lecture that provided some historical context about the Leardo mappamundi, as well as the process of multispectral imaging. View that talk at this link<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
