{"id":256,"date":"2024-07-11T11:07:02","date_gmt":"2024-07-11T16:07:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/lgbtrc\/?page_id=256"},"modified":"2026-04-06T08:52:59","modified_gmt":"2026-04-06T13:52:59","slug":"hate-bias-incident-reporting","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/lgbtrc\/support-resources\/hate-bias-incident-reporting\/","title":{"rendered":"Hate \/ Bias Incident Reporting"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee defines a hate or bias-motivated incident as any disruptive conduct (oral, written, graphic or physical) that is against an individual, or individuals, because of their actual, or perceived, race, color, national origin\/ancestry, religion, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity\/expression, veteran and National Guard status, marital status, pregnancy, political affiliation, or arrest\/conviction record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee urges all members of the 51ÁÔÆæ community to report any hate\/bias incident that has occurred on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>51ÁÔÆæ property, buildings or housing; and\/or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>51ÁÔÆæ sponsored events or activities, regardless of location.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Please complete the form below to help us investigate this incident and maintain safety on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This reporting process is designed to maintain the privacy of those who choose to use it: to that end, information provided by you will be kept confidential to the extent possible unless you authorize its release for investigation and\/or follow-up. If you wish to remain anonymous, please be advised that you will not be contacted by 51ÁÔÆæ regarding any follow-up related to this report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please proceed to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cm.maxient.com\/reportingform.php?UnivofWisconsinMilwaukee&amp;layout_id=30\">Hate\/Bias Incident Reporting Form<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-notice uwm-p-notice--warning\"><i class=\"fa-solid fa-triangle-exclamation fa-fw\"><\/i><div class=\"uwm-p-notice--content\"><div class=\"uwm-p-notice--title\"><strong>Are you in an Emergency?<\/strong><\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-notice--message\"><strong>Please dial 911 or (414) 229-911 (51ÁÔÆæ Campus Police) in case of an emergency or if you witness a crime in progress.\u00a0<\/strong>For non-emergencies, the please call (414) 229-4627 for a direct line to the 51ÁÔÆæ Campus Police Department.<br>You can request an ombudsperson from the 51ÁÔÆæ Ombuds Office at (414) 229-4902.<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you click on the \u201cSubmit to EDS\u201d button on the Hate\/Bias Incident Reporting Form, you will receive a confirmation number. If you requested follow-up at the beginning of this form, you will be contacted within 3 business days (7:45am-4:30pm Monday through Friday), which may include an option to meet and discuss a plan of action to resolve this unfortunate matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you are the victim of a hate or bias-related incident, or if you witnessed a hate or bias-related incident, please do the following to document the incident as best you can:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you experienced a written slur or discovered graffiti, do not erase the text. The police will need to see it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you have a camera or cell phone camera, take a picture of the evidence, any physical injuries sustained, license plate, or anything else relevant.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the incident was verbal, please write down exactly what was said to the best of your recollection. Retain any contact information you may have received from possible witnesses.
