The LGBTQ+ Resource Center proudly promotes and educates others about the strengths and experiences individuals with military experiences or veteran status bring to the 51ÁÔÆæ campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion uwm-p-accordion--icon-left-circle\" data-accordion-prefix-classes=\"uwm\" data-accordion-cool-selectors=\"1\"><button class=\"uwm-p-accordion--toggle-button size-p-md\">Expand All<\/button>\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">51ÁÔÆæ Resources<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/mavrc\/\">Military and Veterans Resource Center<\/a>&nbsp;<\/strong>at 51ÁÔÆæ is located across the hall from the LGBTQ+RC in Union EG-40. The MAVRC provides a safe, supportive environment for military and veteran students; ensuring a successful transition from the military to college, academic success, and the achievement of career goals.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">VA LGBT Program<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>The VA has committed to its LGBTQ+ veterans in recent years, including expanded diversity policies and trans-inclusive healthcare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read more about the VA\u2019s&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patientcare.va.gov\/LGBT\/\">LGBT Program<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each VA has a LGBTQ+ Veteran Care Coordinator (LGBTQ+ VCC), and you can find yours on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patientcare.va.gov\/LGBT\/VAFacilities.asp\">Directory of LGBTQ+ Veteran Care Coordinator<\/a> page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t know where to start? The organization, Disabled American Veterans, has an\u00a0easy to understand <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dav.org\/get-help-now\/veteran-topics-resources\/lgbtq-veterans\/\">LGBTQ+ Veterans<\/a> page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maketheconnection.net\/\">Make the Connection<\/a>&nbsp;is a portal containing mental health resources, information, and stories from fellow veterans, including those veterans who are LGBTQ+. Here is a resource about&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.maketheconnection.net\/events\/sharing-LGBTQ-identity-with-providers\/\">how to come out as LGBTQIA+ to your provider<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Inclusive Veteran Communities<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transveteran.org\/\">Transgender American Veterans Association<\/a>&nbsp;(TAVA) provides information and resources for transgender veterans, including a guide to getting your DD-214 updated after a legal name change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/modernmilitary.org\/\">Modern Military Association of America<\/a>&nbsp;(MMAA) is a leader in advocating and educating around supporting LGBTQ+ Active Military and Veterans.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>51ÁÔÆæ has more veterans than any other four-year school in the six state region.
