Chambers is a licensed professional counselor with LIFE Wellness and Counseling Services, specializing in trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and addiction.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jim Paetsch (\u201894, Master of Public Administration) <\/strong>was named to the <em>Milwaukee Business Journal\u2019s <\/em>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/milwaukee\/news\/2025\/01\/13\/meet-the-2025-40-under-40-hall-of-fame-inductees.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">40 Under 40 Hall of Fame<\/a>.\u201d The Hall of Fame honors past 40 Under 40 awardees for their ongoing accomplishments. Paetsch is the founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/mkeregion.com\/aboutus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Milwaukee 7<\/a>, an organization that creates a cooperative development platform for the seven counties of southeastern Wisconsin to attract and retain businesses and talent. He recently retired from the group.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Melissa Krause (\u201823, BA Communication) <\/strong>received a $4.25 million grant from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wearegreenbay.com\/news\/local-news\/wisconsin-governor-tony-evers-visits-shawano-to-discuss-115-million-in-grants-to-fund-community-facilities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Flexible Facilities Program (FFP)<\/a> to fund the construction of a new library and community center in Freemont, Wisconsin. The facilities will serve more than 2,000 people and provide spaces for children and senior citizens. Krause, the Freemont Library Director, credited a grant writing class at 51ÁÔÆæ taught by Associate Professor <strong>Maria Novotny (English) <\/strong>for much of her success.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reggie Newson (\u201805, BA; \u201805, MA Political Science) <\/strong>was named the CEO of <a href=\"https:\/\/madison365.com\/reggie-newson-named-ceo-of-wellpoint-care-network\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wellpoint Care Network<\/a> in February. Wellpoint is a community organization that aims to care for Milwaukeeans\u2019 health by addressing generational trauma and promoting family and community stability. Newson was previously the Chief Community Impact and Advocacy Officer at Ascensio Wisconsin and has also served as the secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Su Cho (\u201821, PhD English) <\/strong>and <strong>Canese Jarboe (\u201824, PhD English) <\/strong>were named 2025 National Endowment for the Arts Fellows in Poetry and will receive $25,000 each. Cho will join Vanderbilt University\u2019s MFA program as an assistant professor in the fall of 2025. Jarboe published their collection <em>Sissy <\/em>(Garden-Door Press) in 2024 and was also a 2024 Tallgrass Artist-in-Residence. The NEA Fellowship program is one of the most prestigious in creative writing. These fellowships \u201crepresent the agency\u2019s most direct investment in American creativity. The goal of the fellowships program is to encourage the production of new work and allow writers the time and means to write,\u201d according to the NEA website.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Laurels &amp; Accolades\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Associate Professor David Pacifico (Art History)<\/strong> and teaching assistant <strong>Kaily Carson (Emile H. Mathis Art Gallery)<\/strong> led a month-long collaboration with Escuela Verde, a Milwaukee Public Schools charter school in the Silver City neighborhood. They presented bilingual discussions on the history of art in Latin America and hosted high schoolers at the Mathis Gallery to view \u201cRevolutionary Realism: Art After the Mexican Revolution.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In the Media and around the Community\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The world faces a mass extinction event, and Wisconsin species are staring down the barrel. In an article by the Wisconsin Examiner, Teaching Professor <strong>Chris Young (Conservation &amp; Environmental Science) <\/strong>commented on the degradation of habitats like oak savannahs, and Professor <strong>Emily Latch (Biological Sciences) <\/strong>spoke on methods to help battle the decline of species, like genetic tracking.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amid confusion over President Trump\u2019s threatened tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbs58.com\/news\/president-trump-pauses-tariffs-on-mexico-and-canada-economist-breaks-down-impacts-on-your-wallet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CBS 58 News<\/a> turned to <strong>Avik Chakrabarti (Economics) <\/strong>for an idea of their potential economic impact.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor <strong>Rebecca Neumann (Economics) <\/strong>explained how the global supply chain and tariffs impact the price of goods in an article published on <a href=\"https:\/\/thekrazycouponlady.com\/tips\/money\/tariffs-what-will-increase-in-price\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Krazy Coupon Lady<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Architectural historian <strong>Justin Miller (Anthropology)<\/strong> is documenting the work of Alonzo Robinson, Jr., Wisconsin\u2019s first licensed Black architect. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmj4.com\/lifestyle\/black-history-month\/alonzo-robinson-jr-s-son-discusses-his-fathers-impact-as-wisconsins-first-black-architect\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TMJ4 News<\/a> reported on Robinson\u2019s &#8211; and Miller\u2019s &#8211; work. Miller is also scheduled to give a talk about Midcentury religious architecture in April as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheboygansun.com\/things_to_do\/arts-at-the-waelderhaus-returns-in-2025\/article_20551028-e8a0-11ef-960d-0f9c247216a9.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Arts at the Waelderhaus<\/a> 2025 spring schedule.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Assistant Professor <strong>Kidiocus King-Carroll (African &amp; African Diaspora Studies) <\/strong>explained the history of soul food on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox6now.com\/news\/black-history-month-soul-food-culture-african-roots\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fox 6 News<\/a> and how it is an intrinsic part of Black culture in America.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alumnus <strong>Asamoah Nkwanta (\u201884, MS Mathematical Sciences)<\/strong> spoke about his journey as a Black mathematician for a documentary broadcast by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/video\/creating-pathways-ARpvfq\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PBS<\/a>, and recalled the unlikely support he received during his time at 51ÁÔÆæ.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/milwaukeerecord.com\/arts\/uwms-slow-knowing-event-series-sounds-like-just-the-thing-right-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Milwaukee Record<\/em><\/a><em> <\/em>highlighted a spring event series hosted by the <strong>Center for 21st Century Studies <\/strong>titled \u201cSlow Knowing: The Pace of Being Human,\u201d which examines how to slow down in a fast-paced world.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmj4.com\/lifestyle\/black-history-month\/something-in-the-water-milwaukee-filmmaker-exposes-lead-crisis-and-its-impact-on-black-communities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TMJ4 News<\/a> highlighted the work of <strong>Nateya Taylor (\u201823, MS Urban Studies) <\/strong>in an article that featured Taylor\u2019s documentary, \u201cSomething in the Water.\u201d The film sheds light on Milwaukee\u2019s challenges with lead pipes and their disproportionate impact on the city\u2019s Black residents.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As tech billionaire Elon Musk exercises his influence on U.S. politics, <strong>Jeffrey Sommers (Global Studies and African &amp; African Diaspora Studies) <\/strong>discussed the possibility of Musk becoming the world\u2019s first trillionaire in a piece for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.counterpunch.org\/2025\/02\/24\/elon-musks-race-to-become-the-worlds-first-trillionaire-runs-through-your-social-security-and-medicare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>CounterPunch<\/em><\/a><em> <\/em>that was reprinted on <a href=\"https:\/\/theanalysis.news\/elon-musks-race-to-become-the-worlds-first-trillionaire-runs-through-your-social-security-and-medicare-jeffrey-sommers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TheAnalysis.news<\/a>.
