Little did they know that their partnership in the lab would spark a lifelong journey together. The pair married in 1978 and enjoyed fruitful careers: David went on to earn a PhD in Theology from Marquette, while Karen made strides in Medical Technology, helping physicians tackle infertility. On Sept. 27, 2024, they returned to 51ÁÔÆæ for the grand opening of the <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/letters-science\/in-focus-2024\/uwm-shows-off-its-new-chemistry-building\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new Chemistry Building<\/a>\u2014full circle from where it all began. It\u2019s safe to say the chemistry between them is still going strong.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sandra Mason (\u201893, BA Journalism and Mass Communication)<\/strong> was selected to receive the 2024 award of excellence in public relations by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aem.org\/news\/aem%E2%80%99s-sandra-mason-wins-nama-2024-professional-development-award\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Agri-Marketing Association<\/a>. Sandra is director of public relations at the Association for Equipment Manufacturers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Yhadira Ruiz (\u201813, BA Art History)<\/strong> was named one of Wisconsin\u2019s 36 Most Influential Latino Leaders for 2024 by <a href=\"https:\/\/madison365.com\/wisconsins-36-most-influential-latino-leaders-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Madison365<\/a>. Ruiz is the vice president and business relationship manager at BMO Harris Bank and has also served as a volunteer coordinator at Mexican Fiesta for 17 years and a volunteer with the UMOS Mexican Independence Day Parade, among other volunteer positions.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Teresa Kulick (\u201820, BA English)<\/strong> has joined the law firm of Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren S.C. where she will practice employee benefits law.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following her graduation from UW Madison Law School, <strong>Eleanor Borden (\u201819, BA Spanish and Political Science)<\/strong> has joined the Minneapolis law firm of Winthrop &amp; Weinstine in their Business &amp; Commercial Litigation department.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Faculty &amp; Staff Accolades&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Leslie Harris (Communication)<\/strong> received the 2023-24 Hochmuth Nichols Award from the National Communication Association for her book <em>The Rhetoric of White Slavery and the Making of National Identity <\/em>(Michigan State UP, 2023).
