He brings more than 25 years of experience in commercial banking to his new role. Wisconsin Bank &amp; Trust specializes in commercial lending and treasury management services.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Laurels &amp; Accolades\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s <strong>Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies<\/strong> along with the University of Utah\u2019s Center for Latin American Studies were lauded by the U.S. Department of Education for their jointly hosted virtual alumni panel featuring four former students who received a FLAS award during their studies. The Department of Education funded Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) award provides students with a generous stipend and large scholarship to study lesser taught languages and cultures. The FLAS alumni from 51ÁÔÆæ studied Portuguese and Zapotec. All of the alums shared job search and career advice.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In the Media and Around the Community\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>During Milwaukee\u2019s busiest weekend that included the air show at the lakefront, <strong>Karyn Frick (Psychology) <\/strong>spoke with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmj4.com\/news\/milwaukee-county\/sound-sensitive-how-the-mother-of-a-woman-with-autism-is-trying-to-navigate-a-noisy-weekend-ahead\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TMJ4<\/a> about tactics people can use to cope with noise sensitivity.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kevin Cullen (\u201808 MS Anthropology) <\/strong>is the executive director of the Wisconsin Maritime Museum and was part of a team of shipwreck hunters who recently discovered a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/story\/news\/local\/wisconsin\/2024\/07\/23\/shipwreck-hunters-discover-schooner-hidden-in-lake-michigan-131-years\/74497989007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">long-lost schooner<\/a> at the bottom of Lake Michigan.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Katharine Beutner (English)<\/strong> moderated an online panel discussion on the genre of queer international crime fiction. The event was hosted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysterytomebooks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Madison\u2019s Mystery to Me bookstore.<\/a> The discussion featured authors Kwei Quartey and Sam Bett.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Undergraduate <strong>Hailey Beaty (Psychology) <\/strong>shared her accomplishments as the president of 51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s Red Cross Club on the American Red Cross\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redcross.org\/local\/wisconsin\/about-us\/news-and-events\/news\/youth-volunteer-hailey-beaty-shares-her-red-cross-journey.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 51ÁÔÆæ <strong>Cultural Resource Management program <\/strong>helped confirm the existence of the remains of a Native American village dating to 900-1600 AD, said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenorthwestern.com\/story\/news\/local\/oshkosh\/2024\/07\/02\/menominee-park-pratt-trail-reopens-in-oshkosh-after-archeological-work\/74272627007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Oshkosh Northwestern<\/em><\/a>. The remains were located in Oshkosh along Menominee Park\u2019s Pratt Trail. Archaeologists from CRM worked with road crews to excavate the site and preserve artifacts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Emmy Yates (\u201822, MA Urban Studies) <\/strong>explained the philosophy behind DIY skate parks, like the one built by volunteers beneath the I-94 overpass near National Street on Milwaukee\u2019s south side, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.milwaukeemag.com\/a-new-diy-skatepark-is-coming-to-milwaukees-south-side\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Milwaukee Magazine<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/video\/2024\/07\/15\/professor-discusses-trump-assassination-attempt.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CNBC<\/a> interviewed <strong>Jeffrey Sommers (African and African Diaspora Studies)<\/strong> regarding political violence.
