Polsean began her news career at the station as an intern in 2017 and was most recently a morning anchor at 13 WREX.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Danielle Bergner (\u201801, BA Economics) <\/strong>was lauded as one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/milwaukee\/potmsearch\/detail\/submission\/6546636\/Danielle_Bergner\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Milwaukee Business Journal\u2019s<\/em><\/a><em> <\/em>\u201cPeople on the Move\u201d in 2024. Bergner is a shareholder and chair of the real estate practice group at Hall Render, the country\u2019s largest law firm with a focus on the healthcare industry. She has been recognized in Best Lawyers in America and Chambers USA and has several other accolades to her name.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Aaron Roerdink (\u201804, PhD Chemistry &amp; Biochemistry)<\/strong> was promoted to dean of faculty at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oskaloosa.com\/news\/local_news\/central-college-appoints-new-deans\/article_a0ec3436-229f-11ef-8e09-53a25c1ab279.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Central College<\/a> in Pella, Iowa, the college announced in June. Roerdink earned his bachelor\u2019s degree from Central College and most recently been their Associate Dean of Learning Enrichment and Associate Professor-in-Residence of Chemistry.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sarah Blaskey (\u201815, BS History)<\/strong> joined the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/pr\/2024\/06\/13\/sarah-blaskey-joins-rapid-response-investigations-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Washington Post&#8217;s<\/em><\/a><em> <\/em>rapid response investigation team in June, where she will focus on &#8220;urgent topics of intense public interest.&#8221; Blaskey most recently worked at the <em>Miami Herald<\/em>, where she won several awards for her work investigating a condominium collapse in Florida and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis&#8217; plan to fly migrants from Texas to Martha&#8217;s Vineyard. She is also the co-author of the 2020 book, <em>The Grifter&#8217;s Club<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Anna Cannizzo (\u201807, BA; \u201807, MS Anthropology) <\/strong>was named the new director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenorthwestern.com\/story\/news\/local\/oshkosh\/2024\/06\/27\/anna-cannizzo-a-familiar-name-to-oshkosh-public-museum\/74222638007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Oshkosh Public Museum<\/a> in June, after serving as the interim director. Cannizzo will oversee the museum\u2019s staff, exhibitions, and programs. She previously served as the museum\u2019s curator of collections and assistant curator.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Christie Launius (\u201803, PhD, English) <\/strong>has been named associate dean for student success, engagement and undergraduate studies for <a href=\"https:\/\/themercury.com\/christie-launius-named-associate-dean-for-student-success-in-college-of-arts-and-sciences\/article_c702161c-2a7a-11ef-9101-73a22d7a8099.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kansas State University\u2019s College of Arts and Sciences<\/a>. Launius has been an associate professor and interim head of the social transformation studies department at KSU.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Britt Gottschalk (\u201815, BA, Psychology) i<\/strong>s the founder and CEO of Geno.Me,&nbsp; a start-up genetic data exchange service that aims to provide research institutions such as the Medical College of Wisconsin with more robust genetic data sets, particularly from underrepresented community members. The premise is that more data from more people can lead to better medical research outcomes.&nbsp; Geno.Me pays participants $40 each time their data is accessed with a goal of growing their data set from its current level of 3,000 people into the tens of thousands. The business has received&nbsp; over $3 million in investment thus far.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Laurels &amp; Accolades\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Journalism, Advertising, &amp; Media Studies <\/strong>program\u2019s journalism immersion class project, \u201cBeyond the Barricades,\u201d was named a national finalist in the general news reporting \u2013 large university category by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spj.org\/news.asp?REF=3023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Society of Professional Journalists<\/a> in the 2023 Mark of Excellence Awards. These awards honor the best of student journalism nationwide. Students contributing to the \u201cBeyond the Barricades\u201d project traveled to Lac du Flambeau to report on tribal land issues.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PhD student <strong>Rakiba Sultana (Geosciences) <\/strong>was awarded a six-month internship, funded by the National Science Foundation, to conduct numerical modeling of groundwater flow and contaminant transport under the guidance of Dr. Michael Fienen at the U.S. Geological Survey Upper Midwest Water Science Center in Madison.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In the Media and Around the Community\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Geography professor Woonsup Choi<\/strong> provided expert commentary on \u201cheat islands\u201d to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatlakesnow.org\/2024\/06\/heat-islands-in-the-great-lakes-community-infrastructure-and-fresh-water-solutions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Great Lakes Now<\/a>. Heat islands refer to the higher temperatures experienced in urban areas due to the infrastructure such as buildings and roads.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the Climates of Inequality exhibit, a traveling exhibition that has most recently visited Milwaukee, <strong>Arijit Sen (History) <\/strong>organized a \u201cGardener\u2019s Summit\u201d to bring together Milwaukee community gardeners. The <a href=\"https:\/\/shepherdexpress.com\/news\/community-news\/sharing-stories-at-the-gardeners-summit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Shepherd Express<\/a> told the story.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Emerita<strong> Margo Anderson (History) <\/strong>provided information to the USA Today news network to help fact check a social media post that claimed a congressional bill would add representation for non-citizens.
