A 51ΑΤΖζ alum is now a two-time Oscar winner.
Josh Rosenberg, a 2007 graduate in broadcast journalism, is one of the producers of βThe Last Repair Shop,β which won an Academy Award on March 10 .
tells a heartwarming story about the master craftspeople who service the 80,000 musical instruments for the Los Angeles public school system.
Rosenberg also shared an Academy Award in 2022 for which tells the story of overlooked legend Lusia βLucyβ Harris, who scored the first basket in womenβs Olympic history and remains the only woman to ever be officially drafted to the NBA.
Rosenberg gives credit to his education at 51ΑΤΖζ and especially his broadcast journalism teacher, Mark Zoromski, now retired.
βMy love for telling amazing stories was cemented during my time at 51ΑΤΖζ,β Rosenberg said. βMark Zoromski instilled in me the power of humanity in your storytelling. If you can make the audience care, they will follow you anywhere. Oscars are great. But what is even more impactful is honoring someone who shares their most valuable asset with you β their story.β
Rosenberg asked that people consider contributing to the , a joint effort by the filmmakers and the Los Angeles Unified School District Education Foundation to support and enhance the access to music and arts in L.A. public schools.
The presentation of the documentary short feature award , as one of the young musicians in the film, 12-year-old violinist PorchΓ© Brinker, accompanied filmmakers Ben Proudfoot and Kris Bowers to accept the award.
