OLA attorneys rotate the handling of new matters on a weekly basis and each attorney handles a wide variety of legal matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For advice regarding a new, 51ÁÔÆæ-related legal matter, or to schedule a meeting with an attorney, please call (414) 229-4278 or email <a href=\"mailto:nehringb@uwm.edu\">nehringb@uwm.edu<\/a>. Please provide our staff with all relevant background information and documentation to ensure that the intake attorney is best prepared to respond to your inquiry. Our legal support staff member is able to receive any information you consider to be confidential.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Served with Subpoena<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you receive a subpoena to appear as a witness regarding a matter which involves your position at 51ÁÔÆæ, contact our office for further assistance. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the matter is unrelated to 51ÁÔÆæ, you should contact your personal attorney.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you receive a \u201csubpoena duces tecum\u201d asking you to turn over University-related documents, contact our office immediately. You should not respond or turn over any documents prior to consulting our office.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Served with Summons and Complaint<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you are named individually in a lawsuit that is related to your position at 51ÁÔÆæ, you may accept service of the summons and complaint or make arrangements for our office to accept service on your behalf.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are not individually named, you should not accept service of the complaint for either 51ÁÔÆæ or any other individual named as a defendant. Do not sign any acknowledgment or waiver of service forms that come with the summons and complaint.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any time you receive a copy of a summons and complaint relating to your position at the University, contact our office immediately, gather any materials received, and forward them to our office. We will request representation for the named defendant from the Attorney General. Under section 165.25, Wis. Stats., the Attorney General and Department of Justice may represent 51ÁÔÆæ and its employees in 51ÁÔÆæ-related lawsuits filed in state and federal court.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Notary Services<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>51ÁÔÆæ&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/hr\/notary-public\/\">Human Resources Office<\/a> offers notary services during business hours.<br><br>The <a href=\"https:\/\/help.uwcu.org\/kb\/help\/content\/Prod-3518\/Branch-Services\">UW Credit Union<\/a> located in the Student Union offers notary services to members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/dfi.wi.gov\/Pages\/ConsumerServices\/NotaryPublic\/RemoteOnlineNotary.aspx\">State of Wisconsin\u2019s Department of Financial Institutions<\/a> has information regarding remote notarization.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":233,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":2,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":"","uwm_wg_additional_authors":[]},"class_list":["post-42","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.3 (Yoast SEO v27.3) -
