The virtual lab provides any current SOIS student access to a computer from any location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"alignright uwm-c-img--right\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/informationstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/229\/2015\/09\/citrix.jpg\" alt=\"citrix\" class=\"wp-image-1905\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This lab is powered by Citrix XenDesktop, as such, it is compatible with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Windows<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Max OS X<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>iOS (iPhone, iPad, etc.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And much more!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion\" data-accordion-prefix-classes=\"uwm\" data-accordion-cool-selectors=\"1\"><button class=\"uwm-p-accordion--toggle-button size-p-md\">Expand All<\/button>\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Accessing the Virtual Lab via Web Browser<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>Using the web browser is the quickest and most simple way to access the SOIS virtual lab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1) Navigate to:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/desktop.sois.uwm.edu\/\">https:\/\/desktop.sois.uwm.edu<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2) Login using your ePanther ID and password.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use your ePanther ID and ePanther password in order to access the virtual lab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>User name: example ID<br>Password: *<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are unable to login please contact the 51ÁÔÆæ Help Desk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please be sure to let us know what SOIS courses you currently enrolled in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fig. 1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/informationstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/229\/2015\/11\/tuts_it_vlab01.jpg\" alt=\"Screenshot of SOIS virtual lab login page.\" class=\"wp-image-1091\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3)<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Once you login you should arrive at the following page.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fig. 2<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/informationstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/229\/2015\/11\/tuts_it_vlab02.jpg\" alt=\"tuts_it_vlab02\" width=\"577\" height=\"394\">Select the windows icon in order to initiate the virtual lab session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4) A new window\/tab will open up, this is the HTML client. It will load your virtual desktop.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fig. 3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/informationstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/229\/2015\/11\/tuts_it_vlab03.jpg\" alt=\"Screenshot of virtual lab html client.\" class=\"wp-image-1096\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5) The screen or window will look as follows if you connected successfully.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fig. 4<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/informationstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/229\/2015\/11\/tuts_it_vlab04.jpg\" alt=\"Screenshot of virtual lab landing page.\" class=\"wp-image-1098\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>6) Uploading\/Downloading files<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will use the Citrix toolbar displayed on the screen to upload &amp; download files to and from the virtual machine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fig. 5<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/informationstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/229\/2015\/11\/tuts_it_vlab05.jpg\" alt=\"Screenshot of virtual lab upload and download icons\" class=\"wp-image-1100\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The upload option will allow you to select files from your physical machine and upload them to the virtual machine to be worked on and edited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The download option will allow you to download files from the virtual machine to your local\/physical machine for saving and submitting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>7) Copy\/Pasting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also copy and paste content via the Citrix toolbar. Simply by pasting (Ctrl + v) content first into the clipboard, you will then be able to paste the content within the virtual lab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fig. 6<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/informationstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/229\/2015\/11\/tuts_it_vlab06.jpg\" alt=\"Screenshot of upload icon.\" class=\"wp-image-1101\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>*Note: If you are inactive from the lab for 30 minutes or more, you will be logged out automatically. Please be sure to wiggle your mouse once every 30 minutes if you intend to remained logged in.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Accessing the Virtual Lab via Citrix Receiver<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>The Citrix Receiver application offers more advanced functionality, such as being able to directly map USB drives, printers and local storage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1) Download the Citrix&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Receiver<\/strong>:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.citrix.com\/products\/receiver\/\">https:\/\/www.citrix.com\/products\/receiver\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2) Install the Citrix&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Receiver<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When installing the Citrix Receiver you can follow the default installation prompts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3) Configure the Citrix&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Receiver<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the installation is complete you will be prompted to add an account. Please do not enter your email address but instead enter the server address:&nbsp;<strong>desktop.sois.uwm.edu<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>**Note: Effective Fall 2019 you must first log onto the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/network-operations\/vpn-service-for-access-to-uwm-network-resources-2\/\">51ÁÔÆæ VPN<\/a>&nbsp;before accessing the virtual lab**<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/informationstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/229\/2018\/01\/ctxserver-300x244.jpg\" alt=\"Screenshot of Add Account screen for citrix receiver\" class=\"wp-image-8227\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, you\u2019ll be prompted to enter in your username. Please enter in your ePantherID (without @uwm.edu) and password. You may have to enter this information in twice!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/informationstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/229\/2018\/01\/ctxacct-300x245.jpg\" alt=\"Screenshot of username and password prompt screen for citrix receiver\" class=\"wp-image-8228\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4) Launching your Virtual Desktop<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now click on the \u201cSOIS Desktop\u201d and it will load in a separate window. There are advanced functions that can be viewed by clicking the navigation bar at the top. The options available will vary depending on your operating system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/informationstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/229\/2018\/01\/ctxopts-300x45.png\" alt=\"Screenshot of virtual desktop toolbar\" class=\"wp-image-8232\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You can upload and download files either via OneDrive, or by mapping a flash drive or local hard drive under \u201cThis PC\u201d. The options you see will vary depending on the number and type of drives your has.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/informationstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/229\/2018\/01\/ctxdrives-300x173.png\" alt=\"Screenshot of windows file screen\" class=\"wp-image-8233\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Please be sure to save your work somewhere other than the virtual machine often. When your connection ends the computers are automatically wiped to keep them clean for the next user.
