Review our military and veteran resources to find out how your past service and training, in many cases, could count as electives toward a degree in Information Science &amp; Technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"a0\">How Can Your Military Training Apply to a 51ÁÔÆæ Degree?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As a student who has served in the armed forces, you have a Joint Services Transcript, or JST, which chronicles all the military training you have done. Through academic experts in the field, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acenet.edu\/news-room\/Pages\/Military-Guide-Online.aspx\">American Council on Education<\/a> (ACE) has thoroughly evaluated this training and has suggested how it should equate to college-level credit. 51ÁÔÆæ accepts ACE credit recommendations that are relevant to the program and applies them directly to your degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"a1\">Bachelor of Science in Information Science &amp; Technology<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/informationstudies\/academic-programs\/information-science-and-technology\/\">Information Science and Technology program<\/a>, your ACE credits can be applied to four of the five areas of study required for the degree. That means there is a very good chance your military training will shorten your time to degree!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"uwm-c-table\"><table><thead><tr><th>Curriculum Areas<\/th><th><\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>Area I<\/td><td><strong>General Education Requirements (21 credits<\/strong>)<br>Military credits may satisfy part of this requirement<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Area II<\/td><td><strong>Information Studies Core Courses (27 credits)<br><\/strong>Military credits are not eligible for this requirement<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Area III<\/td><td><strong>Information Studies Upper Division Electives (15 credits)<\/strong><br>Military credits are not eligible for this requirement<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Area IV<\/td><td><strong>Cross Functional Electives (15 credits)<\/strong><br>Military credits may satisfy part of this requirement<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Area V<\/td><td><strong>General Electives (42 credits)<\/strong><br>Military credits may satisfy part of this requirement<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"a2\">Military Coursework<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Our veteran students have different military occupational specialties, and their JSTs reflect a variety of applicable college credit. Each student\u2019s JST is evaluated on an individual basis. Below are some military and veteran resources for how your training might equate to degree credit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion\" data-accordion-prefix-classes=\"uwm\" data-accordion-cool-selectors=\"1\">\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Cyber Basic Officer Leadership (1,400 hours)<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Advanced Networking, 3 credits<\/li><li>Network Design and Management, 3 credits<\/li><li>Cyber Security Defenses, 3 credits<\/li><li>Cyber Security Planning, Controls and Implementation, 3 credits<\/li><li>Cyber Operations, 3 credits<\/li><li>Security Forensics, 3 credits<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>18 credits for one military course! These credits could apply to the cross-functional and\/or general electives.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Civil Affairs (293 hours)<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>Organizational planning, 3 credits<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Chief Petty Officer Academy (163 hours)<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>Leadership, 3 credits<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">U.S. Army Sergeants Major (1,485 hours)<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Business communications, 3 credits<\/li><li>Military History, 3 credits<\/li><li>Management, 3 credits<\/li><li>Leadership, 3 credits<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>These 12 credits could apply to general electives.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Basic Prior Service Recruiter (237 hours)<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>Public Speaking, 3 credits<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Infantryman (849 hours)<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>Human Relations Communications, 3 credits<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Military Intelligence Basic Officer (890 hours)<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>Computer Applications, 3 credits<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At the School of Information Studies, we value the experience and training of our military and veteran students.
