{"id":720,"date":"2022-09-14T12:13:34","date_gmt":"2022-09-14T17:13:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/informationstudies\/?post_type=career-path&#038;p=720"},"modified":"2022-09-14T12:13:35","modified_gmt":"2022-09-14T17:13:35","slug":"systems-administrator","status":"publish","type":"career-path","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/informationstudies\/career-path\/systems-administrator\/","title":{"rendered":"Systems Administrator"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A system administrator, or sysadmin, is a person who is responsible for the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems; especially multi-user computers, such as servers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The system administrator seeks to ensure that the uptime, performance, resources, and security of the computers he or she manages meet the needs of the users, without exceeding the budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To meet these needs, a system administrator may acquire, install, or upgrade computer components and software; provide routine automation; maintain security policies; troubleshoot; train and\/or supervise staff; or offer technical support for projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many organizations staff other jobs related to system administration. In a larger company, these may all be separate positions within a computer support or Information Services (IS) department.
