Upcoming Windows 11 Upgrade

51ÁÔÆæ IT will upgrade all capable university owned computers currently running Windows 10 on Wednesday, May 28 at 10 pm due to the end of Microsoft support of this operating system.

Information on the Upgrade
You can at your convenience prior to May 28. On May 28 at 10 pm, computers will automatically upgrade to Windows 11. To check if your computer is compatible with the upgrade, please use the available in the . Instructional computer labs and classrooms will be upgraded starting the week of May 18.

If you need an exception to continue using Windows 10 on your computer, please submit a support request by May 20 for review. IT staff will evaluate your request and work with you on a solution.

Computers that cannot upgrade will not be compliant with the and will be considered obsolete. 51ÁÔÆæ IT will implement measures to secure these computers by procuring Microsoft Extended Support Updates (ESU) licenses until they can be replaced.

Important Dates

  • May 18 – 27 – Instructional computer lab and classroom computers will be upgraded
  • May 20 – Final submission date for Windows 10 support request
  • May 28 – University owned and managed computers will automatically upgrade to Windows 11

Microsoft reports over 99% application compatibility between Windows 10 and 11. If you use an application that is not compatible with Windows 11, you must work with your department to purchase a version that is compatible.
