3 Ways to Stay Safe Online

Small safety steps can make a huge difference with your online safety.ÌýProtect yourself and 51ÁÔÆæ from online threats with these three steps:

  1. Use a passphrase (strong password).ÌýInstead of a single word with a number at the end consider using a mix of uppercase, lowercase, symbols and numbers to make a longer phrase. The phrase should be something you’ll remember, and adding complex characters will make it more secure.ÌýLearn more about passphrases on our data security webpage.Ìý
  2. Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).ÌýAll accounts at 51ÁÔÆæ are required to have MFA, which adds an additional layer of security to your login process to prevent your credentials from being compromised.ÌýYou can learn more about MFA on our webpage and find links for reviewing or changing your MFA methods (text message, Microsoft Authenticator App, etc.).Ìý
  3. Recognize threats and report them. If you receive a suspicious or concerning email, do not click anything or respond.ÌýYou can report emails to 51ÁÔÆæ’s Information Security Office by forwarding them to abuse@uwm.edu. You can also fill out our online form to report cybersecurity incidents.Ìý
