We\u2019re here for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-u-flex uwm-u-flex--wrap uwm-u-flex--left\">\n<a class=\"uwm-c-button uwm-u-mr-20 uwm-u-mb-20\" href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/safety\/\" rel=\"\">51ÁÔÆæ Safety Information<\/a>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-natural-disaster-emergency-preparation\">Natural Disaster\/ Emergency Preparation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-general-emergency-preparedness\">General Emergency Preparedness<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It is the policy of the University of Wisconsin \u2013 Milwaukee to immediately notify the campus community upon confirmation of a significant emergency or dangerous situation involving an immediate threat to the health or safety of students, employees or visitors on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-u-flex uwm-u-flex--wrap uwm-u-flex--left\">\n<a class=\"uwm-c-button uwm-u-mr-20 uwm-u-mb-20\" href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/safety-and-assurances\/emergency-preparedness\/\" rel=\"\">51ÁÔÆæ Emergency Preparedness<\/a>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-emergency-preparation-for-your-car\">Emergency Preparation for Your Car<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep a warm blanket, water, food, and a flashlight in your car in case of emergencies. A roadside safety kit is also useful to keep in your car. In the winter, include an ice\/snow scraper, foldable shovel, and a pair of gloves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-tornados-nbsp\">Tornados&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure you know where to go in your apartment in case of a tornado. The basement or an inside room without windows on the lowest level of the building are the safest place to go. If you live in a large apartment building, your landlord likely has instructions on where to go in the event of a tornado or fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-fire-amp-carbon-monoxide-nbsp\">Fire &amp; Carbon Monoxide&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Check your fire and carbon monoxide alarms (these may be combined as one alarm in some buildings) at least every 6 months, although every month is better. Plan a few safe escape routes in case of a fire in your building. Clean out the lint trap in your dryer every time you use it to prevent fires!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-renters-insurance\">Renters Insurance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Purchasing renters\u2019 insurance is an important way to protect your belongings in the event of an emergency such as a fire or flood as your landlord is not liable for items that get damaged or destroyed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>General Safety Information As a student at 51ÁÔÆæ, your safety is a top priority. 51ÁÔÆæ is full of resources and people to help in an emergency if you\u2019re in crisis or just need someone to listen.
