MFA Creative Writing, University of Wisconsin-Madison
MA English Literature, University of Chicago
BA English and Philosophy, University of Iowa

Steven joined the Honors College in 2024. Prior to joining the Honors College, Steven taught courses in the 51 English Department, as well as courses at UW-Madison, Madison College, and UW-Baraboo. His HON 200 courses center on love narratives, the gothic, and the coming-of-age novel (bildungsroman). These courses combine literary studies, philosophy, history and psychology to examine the lessons of literature as “equipment for living.” Steven also coordinates and teaches Honors 199, the 1-credit companion course to English 102.

A practicing fiction writer, Steven has published short fiction and book reviews in places like The Iowa Review and The Harvard Review. As a scholar, Steven is currently interested in how the findings of quantum physics have transformed gothic literature. Most importantly, Steven loves learning from his students. As the writing specialist, Steven is focused on bringing out the author’s voice, cultivating their curiosity, and reinvigorating their research. In all aspects of his teaching and mentoring, Steven seeks to be an inclusive ally, an advocate for neurodivergent students, and someone who seeks to destigmatize mental health struggles.
