For information on this program see the <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/graduateschool\/\">51ÁÔÆæ Graduate School<\/a> or the <a href=\"http:\/\/msep.mhec.org\/institution\/university-wisconsin-milwaukee\">Midwest Student Exchange Program<\/a>\u00a0site.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"a0\">How to Apply to the History Graduate Program<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>These instructions are for applicants who wish to apply to pursue one of the following degree options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list uwm-c-list--border\">\n<li>MA in History\u2014General History Option A: Thesis Option<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>MA in History\u2014General History Option B: Non-Thesis Option<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>MA in History\u2014Urban Historical Studies Specialization<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>MA in Public History\u2014 1) Public History Specialization; 2) Museum Studies Track; 3) Archives Track; 4) Historic Preservation Track 5) Thesis Track<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>MA in History\/MLIS in Library and Information Studies Dual Degree *(application requirements may be slightly different for MA\/MLIS dual degree.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PhD in History\u2014applicants must already have a master&#8217;s degree in history or in a related field.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"uwm-c-link--external\"><strong>Important:<\/strong>&nbsp;Admission to the PhD program in History is only considered for the fall semester. However, students may immediately start taking classes as \u201cnon-degree\u201d graduate students and have those credits count toward their degree after gaining graduate admission. See&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/graduateschool\/students\/admission\/non-degree-candidate-admission\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Non-degree Candidate Admission<\/a>&nbsp;for the application process.<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;History admits&nbsp;MA students for both the Fall and Spring semesters although&nbsp;priority will be given to applicants that submit all their application materials by December 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading default\">Applicant Process<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Review the admission requirements on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/graduateschool\/admission\/\">Graduate School\u2019s Admission Information<\/a>&nbsp;page.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Review the step-by-step presentation below to learn about the application process.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: 1px solid #CCC;border-width: 1px;margin-bottom: 5px;max-width: 100%\" src=\"https:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/slideshow\/embed_code\/key\/3ma6Zscv8Hp3mM\" width=\"854\" height=\"712\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"> <\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Complete the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/graduateschool-apply.uwm.edu\/\">Graduate School\u2019s Online Application<\/a>. Required elements of the application include:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Application fee<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Selection of a degree option<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A &#8220;reasons&#8221; statement &#8211; The History Department evaluates the reasons statement to determine the appropriateness of the applicant\u2019s desired degree program for the applicant\u2019s educational and professional goals. The reasons statement also serves as an example of the applicant\u2019s writing. A reasons statement should include the following:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Why you wish to pursue graduate study in history at UW-Milwaukee<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discussion of relevant academic background, knowledge, experience, or skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A list and explanation of relevant academic awards or honors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One (1) transcript from every undergraduate and graduate institution attended by the applicant.<strong> <\/strong>Note: If the online system only accepts a limited number of transcripts, upload the most recent and those in which a degree was conferred.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Two (2) Letters of Recommendation for master\u2019s students and three (3) letters of recommendation for doctoral applicants.<br>Applicants must input their recommenders\u2019 email addresses into the online application system which will then generate a request for a letter. Recommenders will then upload letters directly to the online system.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Writing Sample &#8211; Applicants must upload a research paper to the online system. For MA applicants, the writing sample should be at least ten (10) pages and not more than twenty (20) pages in length. For doctoral applicants the sample should be at least twenty (20) pages and not more than forty (40) pages. The sample should demonstrate the applicant\u2019s ability to analyze primary and secondary sources and should include properly formatted footnotes or endnotes and a properly formatted bibliography.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Priority will be given to students that submit all application materials by December 1st.
