While funding for a Research Assistant is usually allocated on a semester, academic year, or calendar year basis, the supervisor should communicate the likelihood of the continuation of funding and the process by which funding decisions are made. Contracts are not made for more than one year at a time. Supervisors should help their Research Assistants understand the funding available from the grant through which they are funded and how continuation of funding will be determined.\u00a0The supervisor also should convey whether the Research Assistant is expected to participate in the grant writing process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
