The Student Union Garage is the closest but also the most expensive. You\u2019ll learn to make maps using the free, open-source QGIS software for Windows, Mac, and Linux computers. We\u2019ll guide you using short custom-made videos, a guidebook, and one-on-one help. You\u2019ll learn how to install the QGIS mapping software so that you can continue making maps after GIS Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Intro Python for GIS with ArcGIS Pro<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Instructor: <\/em>Brett Ketter<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"#bol\">Bolton Hall 293 (Floor 2)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An introductory look at the various ways to use python in ArcGIS Pro. Becoming a proficient Python coder takes time, but ArcGIS Pro makes that process easier by giving you multiple options to learn the syntax that will quickly allow you to begin that journey. The workshop covers the Python window, using IDLE to run short Python scripts, creating a basic Jupyter Notebook, and finally converting a ModelBuilder model into a python script.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Humanitarian Mapping<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Instructor: <\/em>Saeedeh Morassafar &amp; Shamsun Nahar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"#bol\">Bolton Hall 296 (Floor 2)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Join us for a hands-on session where you will learn how digital maps can make a real difference in the world. Using simple online tools like OpenStreetMap and you will help fill in missing map data for places where humanitarian organizations work during emergencies. It is an easy and meaningful way to use your time and tech skills to support communities in need and no experience is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Georeferencing Maps with Allmaps<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Instructor: <\/em>Stephen Appel<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"#bol\">Bolton Hall 296 (Floor 2)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a class=\"button\" href=\"https:\/\/uwm-libraries.github.io\/allmaps-intro-workshop\/\">Workshop Website<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An introductory workshop designed to help participants learn how to georeference historical and scanned maps using the Allmaps platform. Attendees will explore how to find resources that use the IIIF (International Image Interoperability Framework) standard, locate IIIF manifest links, and open them in the Allmaps Editor. Both rooms are right at the top of the stairs on the far North end of the building. An elevator is available further down the hall on the right, just past the Roberto Hernandez Center.
