These courses earn points towards certification as a GISP, GIS Professional, through the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gisci.org\/\">GIS Certification Institute<\/a>. These opportunities include the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-graduate-certificate-in-geographic-information-system\">Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information System<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For those who desire to prepare for a career in geographic information systems, the UW-Milwaukee offers a formal course of study in GIS technology leading to a <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/geography\/academics\/geographic-information-systems-graduate-certificate\/\">Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Systems<\/a>. This program recognizes the multidisciplinary nature of GIS technology and application by identifying a prescribed set of GIS-related courses from three different departments on campus so that students can obtain critical background and skills that relate to GIS technology: database management, cartography, remote sensing, surveying, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list ls-no-bullet\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/geography\/academics\/geographic-information-systems-graduate-certificate\/\">Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Systems<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-department-of-geography\">Department of Geography<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Geography offers undergraduate majors a <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/geography\/academics\/geography-ba\/\">Geographic Information Science Track<\/a> in their degree program. A Geography Master&#8217;s degree is offered with a GIS focus in thesis\/non-thesis options, as well as a <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/geography\/academics\/geography-phd\/\">doctoral degree<\/a> which can include an emphasis in GIS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list ls-no-bullet\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/geography\/wp-admin\/\">Department of Geography &#8211; College of Letters &amp; Science<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-school-of-architecture-amp-urban-planning\">School of Architecture &amp; Urban Planning<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The School of Architecture &amp; Urban Planning\u202fwithin the College of the Arts &amp; Architecture offers a transcript-designated Concentration in Geographic Information Systems as one of its 6 emphases within the Master of Urban Planning Degree. PhD students have also specialized in GIS in Architecture, and Urban Studies. A multidisciplinary PhD program is another option for students who wish to specialize in GIS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list ls-no-bullet\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/architecture\/\">Urban Planning Program &#8211; School of Architecture &amp; Urban Planning<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-department-of-criminal-justice\">Department of Criminal Justice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Criminal Justice offers Graduate and Undergraduate degrees in their <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/socialwelfare\/academics\/crime-analysis-cert\/\">Crime Analysis Programs<\/a>. The department also offers a Certificate in Crime Analysis using tools such as GIS to map and analyze crime patterns and help police address crime trends and allocate resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list ls-no-bullet\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/socialwelfare\/academics\/crime-analysis-cert\/\">Crime Analysis Programs \u2014 The Helen Bader School of Social Welfare within the College of Community Engagement &amp; Professions<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Current GIS instruction at UW-Milwaukee includes opportunities for an undergraduate degree track, certificates, and for specialization within graduate programs.
