About the Project<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Stewardship Mapping and Assessment Project<\/a><\/strong> (STEW-MAP) collects information about civic groups and organizations who are engaged in environmental stewardship efforts to answer the question: who takes care of the local environment? It is a research methodology and mapping tool developed by the USDA Forest Service Northern Research Station and has been conducted in 15 regions worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its goal is to create resources that can strengthen community capacity to care for their environment. It is also a community organizing tool to promote engagement with on-the ground projects and build more effective partnerships among stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We want to add Milwaukee to the growing STEW-MAP network!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In collaboration and guidance with the USDA Forest Service Northern Research Station STEW-MAP researchers, STEW-MAP is coming to Milwaukee!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This project is part of the dissertation work of Dulmini Jayawardana, a PhD student in the Department of Geography at 51ÁÔÆæ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We aim to create a searchable map and publicly- available database of civic groups and other organizations taking care of Milwaukee\u2019s environment. Together, we can help potential volunteers, public agencies, funders, and other stewards learn about your group\u2019s work. In turn, you will be able to learn about other groups doing stewardship work in Milwaukee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
