Members must be in the top third of their class or have a minimum 3.33 GPA in their geography courses. GTU offers scholarships and networking opportunities to its members.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.presence.io\/organization\/alpha-mu-chapter-of-gamma-theta-upsilon\">51ÁÔÆæ Chapter<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gammathetaupsilon.org\/\">National<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/uwm_gtu_alpha_mu\/\">Alpha Mu Chapter Instagram<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"a1\">Honors in the Major<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Geography majors who have maintained at least a 3.0 GPA overall and a 3.5 GPA in all courses taken for the major are awarded the distinction \u2018Honors in the Major\u2019 when they graduate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"a2\">High Honors in the Major<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Geography majors who have maintained at least a 3.0 GPA overall and a 3.75 GPA in all courses taken for the major are awarded the distinction \u2018High Honors in the Major\u2019 when they graduate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Honors College<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Students invited to join the 51ÁÔÆæ Honors College have exclusive access to Honors classes and upon completion of the Honors requirements can graduate with Honors distinctions. Honors courses are typically smaller than average and taught in a seminar style. Freshmen are invited to join based on their admissions application materials demonstrating high achievement in high school. Current students and transfer students can contact the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/honors\/admission\/\">Honors College<\/a>\u00a0to inquire about eligibility to apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dean&#8217;s Honor List<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">Students with a major in the College of Letters &amp; Science majors who earn a GPA of 3.750 or above in any semester where 12 or more graded credits are earned will be placed on the Dean\u2019s Honors List for that semester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Phi Beta Kappa<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\"><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/phi-beta-kappa\/\">Phi Beta Kappa<\/a> is the nation\u2019s oldest honor society. Membership is by invitation only. Just ten percent of U.S. universities have Phi Beta Kappa chapters, and within the UW System, only Milwaukee and Madison have chapters. <\/p>\r\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">Membership criteria include the completion of a broad range of liberal arts coursework spanning the arts, sciences, humanities, social sciences, and languages; and academic achievement with a minimum GPA in these classes of 3.850 for juniors or 3.750 for seniors.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Phi Kappa Phi<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">Phi Kappa Phi is also recognized as one of the nation\u2019s premier academic honor societies. Membership is by invitation only and is based on class rank \u2014 top 7.5% for juniors or top 10% for seniors. All majors are eligible.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading default\">Graduation Honors<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Undergraduate students with a cumulative GPA of 3.500 or above, based on a minimum of 40 graded 51ÁÔÆæ credits earned prior to the final semester will receive all-university commencement honors and will be awarded the traditional gold cord at the commencement honors convocation.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alpha Mu Chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon Gamma Theta Upsilon is the international honor society in geography bringing together students with shared interests and aspiration since 1928.
