{"id":12751,"date":"2025-09-04T12:04:58","date_gmt":"2025-09-04T17:04:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/freshwater\/?p=12751"},"modified":"2026-03-04T10:01:54","modified_gmt":"2026-03-04T16:01:54","slug":"guo-lab-updates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/freshwater\/guo-lab-updates\/","title":{"rendered":"Guo Lab: new published paper and presentations at meetings"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/freshwater\/people\/guo-laodong\/\">Dr. Laodong Guo<\/a> and Postdoctoral Research Associate Shimaa Kteeba coauthored a new research paper titled &#8220;<em>UV-induced release and characterization of dissolved organic matter from disposable face mask layers and polypropylene<\/em>&#8221; that was published in the Journal of Hazardous Materials. The paper highlights:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All mask plies are susceptible to UV weathering, with DOM yields following SFM&gt;N95\u202f&gt;\u202fKN95.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aromaticity and molecular weight in FMs-derived DOM decreased generally during UV-irradiation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Three major fluorescent components were identified in every mask each with unique DOM composition.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>SEM images revealed clear fiber fragmentation after UV-irradiation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>Guo&#8217;s lab also has presented at various meetings and conferences recently. Dr. Guo attended the the 2025 Goldschmidt Meeting during 6-11 July 2025 in Prague, Czech Republic, and presented a paper on \u201cDepositional history of PFAS in the bay of Green Bay in Lake Michigan over the last 80 years.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the ACS Fall Meeting during August in Washington DC, lab members Wenxin Zhang, Shimaa Kteeba, and Guo presented &#8220;Ultrafiltration permeation behavior and partitioning of PFAS between dissolved and colloidal phases.&#8221; Additionally, Kteeba, Krueger and Guo presented Yields and characterization of microplastic-derived dissolved organic matter from various polymers under different leaching conditions.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congratulations to Dr. Guo and his lab team members!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Laodong Guo and Postdoctoral Research Associate Shimaa Kteeba coauthored a new research paper titled &#8220;UV-induced release and characterization of dissolved organic matter from disposable face mask layers and polypropylene&#8221; that was published in the Journal of Hazardous Materials.
