{"id":12140,"date":"2025-06-30T11:04:46","date_gmt":"2025-06-30T16:04:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/freshwater\/?p=12140"},"modified":"2026-03-04T10:09:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-04T16:09:09","slug":"rebecca-klaper-coauthors-report-on-importance-of-great-lakes-science-and-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/freshwater\/rebecca-klaper-coauthors-report-on-importance-of-great-lakes-science-and-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Rebecca Klaper coauthors report on importance of Great Lakes science and research"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Federal investment in Great Lakes research doesn\u2019t just protect the waters\u2019 ecosystems, it bolsters safety and prosperity for the people who call the region home, according to a new peer-reviewed publication.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report titled &#8220;Investing in Great Lakes science is critical for safety and prosperity&#8221; was published by the <a href=\"https:\/\/iaglr.org\/\">International Association for Great Lakes Research<\/a> and was written by experts from institutions around the Great Lakes region, including 51ÁÔÆæ School of Freshwater Sciences dean, Rebecca Klaper. Authors and IAGLR members are available for interviews about the wide-ranging benefits of this science supported by the public, for the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur freshwater systems, including the Great Lakes, are the most important resources we have,\u201d Klaper said. \u201cThe federal investment in research, cleanup and protection of these resources has led to safer drinking water, protection of fisheries, better predictions of weather, cleaner beaches, economic growth and healthier human populations.
