The Office of Student Scholarships (OSS) within the <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/enrollmentmanagement\/\">Division of Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Success<\/a> provides institution-wide leadership with the knowledge, authority, and focus to develop and spearhead the implementation of strategic goals and standard best practices regarding student scholarships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-mission\">Mission<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Promote the recruitment, retention, and academic success of UW-Milwaukee students through effective implementation and execution of scholarship activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-purpose\">Purpose<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>OSS provides centralized coordination and resources for key functions for student scholarships at 51ÁÔÆæ, including training, technology, assessment, community-building, <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/finances\/scholarships\/policies\/\">policy<\/a>, and communication. OSS serves as the enterprise system administrator for the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/uwm.academicworks.com\/\">Panther Scholarship Portal<\/a>, 51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s universal student scholarships platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, OSS is the department responsible for the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Administering more than 120&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.academicworks.com\/opportunities?utf8=%E2%9C%93&amp;term=&amp;scopes%5B%5D=1&amp;commit=Filter+Opportunities\">university-wide scholarships<\/a>&nbsp;held by the 51ÁÔÆæ Foundation and the Universities of Wisconsin Office of Trust Funds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Awarding institutional scholarship dollars, such as the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/undergrad-admission\/scholarships-aid\/chancellors-merit-scholarship\/\">Chancellor\u2019s Merit Scholarship<\/a>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/undergrad-admission\/scholarships-aid\/milwaukee-advantage-program\/\">Milwaukee Advantage Program<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Processing scholarships in collaboration with the Athletics Department and Graduate School<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Processing <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/finances\/scholarships\/private-scholarships\/\">external\/private scholarships<\/a> received by 51ÁÔÆæ students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Awarding continuation grants for student re-entry, retention, and emergencies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Communicating and upholding the university&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/finances\/scholarships\/policies\/\">scholarship policies<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>OSS also serves as a resource for campus units that award dollars to students for prizes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-core-values\">Core Values<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The following core values guide the work of OSS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-card-grid uwm-l-grid uwm-l-grid--equal-y uwm-l-grid--2\">\n<div class=\"uwm-p-card uwm-u-mb-40\"><div class=\"uwm-p-card--body\"><div class=\"uwm-p-card--title\">Adaptability<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-card--content\">Positivity<br>Enthusiasm<br>Innovation<br>Flexibility<br>Focused on Solutions<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-card uwm-u-mb-40\"><div class=\"uwm-p-card--body\"><div class=\"uwm-p-card--title\">Collaboration<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-card--content\">Leadership<br>Communication<br>Transparency<br>Service to Others<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-card uwm-u-mb-40\"><div class=\"uwm-p-card--body\"><div class=\"uwm-p-card--title\">Integrity<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-card--content\">Ethical Decision-Making<br>Attention to Detail<br>Compliance<br>Timeliness<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-card uwm-u-mb-40\"><div class=\"uwm-p-card--body\"><div class=\"uwm-p-card--title\">Diversity<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-card--content\">College Attainability<br>Equity<br>Inclusion<br>Respect<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-partners-amp-engagement-groups\">Partners &amp; Engagement Groups<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The following campus units are critical partners to OSS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>University Advancement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Awarding Units: Schools, Colleges, Academic Departments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Undergraduate Admissions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student Financial Services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Business &amp; Financial Services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Legal Affairs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:32px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>OSS also engages the following teams for effective scholarship administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion\" data-accordion-prefix-classes=\"uwm\" data-accordion-cool-selectors=\"1\"><button class=\"uwm-p-accordion--toggle-button size-p-md\">Expand All<\/button>\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Chancellor&#8217;s Scholarship Administration Oversight Council<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>CSAOC was initially formed to identify best practices and forward a coordinated strategy across schools, colleges, and units to ensure 51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s scholarship dollars are used strategically to support recruitment and retention efforts across campus. Following months of engagement, CSAOC\u2019s primary recommendation to campus leadership was the hiring of a Director of Student Scholarships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CSAOC now serves as an advisory council to the Office of Student Scholarships and is chaired by the Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management. It is comprised of representatives from numerous campus areas, including schools and colleges, Undergraduate Admissions, Assessment and Institutional Research, Business and Financial Services, University Advancement, and the 51ÁÔÆæ Foundation.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Scholarship Administrators Workgroup<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>SAW\u2019s purpose is to facilitate communication and provide a network for those who work with scholarship programs at 51ÁÔÆæ. SAW meets monthly to discuss issues related to administering scholarships.
