DESCRIPTION:The 51ΑΤΖζ Police Department is sponsoring an art contest from Feb. 2-28. Simply color one of the pre-drawn coloring pages or choose one of our K9 Ezmae inspiration pictures to draw or design a work of art. Find the coloring pages on the 51ΑΤΖζPD’s Instagram pageΒ in February. \nTurn in your masterpiece to the front desk in the lobby of the 51ΑΤΖζ Police Department\, 3351 W. Downer Ave.\, Milwaukee. \nOur K9 handler will pick a winner in every category. SUMMARY:Cocina Libre: Building Community through Immigrant Stories and Food Cultures
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of food\, film\, and connection as we host professor and licensed therapist Julia Roncoroni (University of Denver; Cocina Libre founder) and Chef Gregory LeΓ³n (Amilinda restaurant\, Milwaukee). Both speakers grew up in Latin America and prioritize the sharing of food cultures as a way to build belonging and connection in their local communities. Attendees will watch a short documentary (40 minutes) about Cocina Libre’s impact on chef participants; hear directly from Roncoroni and LeΓ³n about their work; and get to sample light appetizers from Chef Greg’s Amilinda offerings! \nRSVP requested on the event webpage by Feb. 19. \nThis event is presented by the UW-Milwaukee Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies\, Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences\, and Division of Community Empowerment and Institutional Inclusivity. \nFor questions or access needs\, please contact clacs@uwm.edu.

DESCRIPTION:Join the 51ΑΤΖζ Department of African and African Diaspora Studies when the AADS Seminar Series hosts Derrick Harriell\, PhD\, on Feb. 27\, from 1-2 pm in Mitchell Hall\, Room 206. 51ΑΤΖζ through and through: Derrick Harriell traces his professional experience as a 51ΑΤΖζ alum and now a 51ΑΤΖζ professor. \nThe conversation will cover the creative projects that ultimately led him back home\, including his most recent project\, co-authored with the rapper 2 Chainz. Harriell is from Milwaukee and is the author of four collections of poetry\, including β€œRopes\,” winner of the Mississippi Arts and Letters Poetry Book of the Year award.
