The difference, though, is that courses for a certificate are taken from a variety of different departments and programs while still maintaining a focus around a particular theme. These certificates can be highly complementary to an English major.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-digital-arts-amp-culture-undergraduate-certificate\">Digital Arts &amp; Culture Undergraduate Certificate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Digital Arts &amp; Cultures (DAC) students gain practical skills in creating and critically analyzing digital art and media, as well as an understanding of the cultural and political implications of emerging technologies. <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/digital-arts-culture\/academics\/digital-arts-culture-undergraduate-certificate\/\">The DAC certificate<\/a> is open to all students seeking a bachelor\u2019s degree from 51ÁÔÆæ, to those who previously received a bachelor\u2019s degree from 51ÁÔÆæ or any other accredited college or university, and to those who do not plan to pursue a college or university degree (non-degree students) but who have a strong interest in this area of study. To be admitted to the university as non-degree students, individuals must meet regular university admission requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-celtic-studies\">Celtic Studies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/celtic-studies\/\">Certificate Program in Celtic Studies<\/a> provides for students in any field an integrated course of study across several curricular areas into the historical and contemporary cultures of the Irish, Scots, Welsh, Cornish, Manx, Breton, and Galician peoples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-cultures-and-communities\">Cultures and Communities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/cultures-communities\/\">Cultures and Communities Certificate<\/a>, students concentrate their GER classes in the areas of U.S. multicultural studies, global and international perspectives, and the community and cultural contexts of art, science, health, and technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-film-studies\">Film Studies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/film-studies\/\">Film Studies program<\/a> offers a major or a minor for students to learn about the history, theory and criticism of film and television. Cinema and television are explored in their aesthetic, social, cultural, political and technological contexts to gain an understanding of their role in global society throughout history and today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-lesbian-gay-bisexual-and-transgender-studies\">Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Studies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/letters-science\/lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender-studies\/\">LGBT Studies Certificate Program<\/a> provides a curricular structure for undergraduates interested in the interdisciplinary study of same-sex relations, and human sexuality more generally, in past and present cultures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-women-s-amp-gender-studies\">Women&#8217;s &amp; Gender Studies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/womens-gender-studies\/\">Women&#8217;s &amp; Gender Studies<\/a> courses, students learn to identify and assess gender-based assumptions and biases and to recognize their consequences on an individual, social, and cultural basis.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Certificates are similar to minors in the number of credits required.
